Wood Pin Cues

I'm just curious to see what people think about cues with wooden pins, and if anyone has a cue and could post up some pictures of the cue and pin as well as a little excerpt about the cue.

I've only seen 2 wood pin cues and I wanted to buy both of them on the spot, but they weren't for sale. Anyone? Thanks!

Thanks a lot. Now that I look at more of those pics I'm beginning to think one of the wood pin cues I saw that Luis(I think) at Click's on Skillman was a starkey. Might have to make room in the case for one of these :D

they're pretty affordable too. he sent me one for a trial run and it hit really good. i just ran out of money and couldn't afford it

Try a Karella

If you just want to try a wood pin, you can get a Karella (imported by Competition Sports) off Ebay pretty cheap. Search Karella Cue or seller "hotcues." Hotcues had a KF-2 for $99 and $8.00 shipping earlier this week. I have a full set of Karella's, model #'s KF-1, 2 and 3. I like the way they play, but I think the balance point is a little further back than most cues. You can see pictures using "completed items" on Ebay. Most of the cues made by Competition's manufacturer use a white collar on billiard tapered shafts and a black collar on pool tapered shafts, if I remember correctly. Even though the Ebay ads say no metal, they do have weight bolts so you can modify it a little. I hope to get a better wood pin cue like a Kilby or a Carl Conlon Special by Helmstetter eventually.

i have to disagree with the "tend to break" statement. i've got a few helmstetter carl conlon special pool tapered cues. one i've been using for at least 7 years, as my break cue. i slam the crap out the racks, and the joint is as tight as it was when new.

here's a pic i've posted many times, but in response to the request above, here it is again.

most of the cues i build have a 1/2 by 8 wood pin. i have never had a pin, or a shaft to break, i have made over 100 wood pin cues. i sell them here and on ebay. pm any questions. thanks chuck

Wood pins

Everyone I ever seen broke down, or just ended up with stripped threads.

Why chance it when you have better more reliable joints available to you?
