Anyone ever use Hondurus Mahagony for a forearm, handle or butt sleeve? I'm sure it's been used for inlayes before. How does it hit, how comparable is it to say... bacote, cocabola, maple, purpleheart?

Thanks,
Zim

i have some with real nice figure, but it is alot softer and lighter than i originally anticipated.i wouldn't use it as a forearm, but i might use a piece as a handle and core it.the only hting i have used it for so far is ringwork.not sure of the hit,but i would guess soft if not cored.

i have never used mahagony for a solid forearm, i have however converted a few of the old mahagony full splice brunswicks. i like the looks, feel, and hit of those cues. chuck

Mahagony ??

Personally It's mighty light and more porous than any wood I would want in my cue... But you could use anything you want if you like the way it looks or hits. Weighting may be a problem.. You could use a weighted handle but your balance point might be closer to the butt..

it's not any more porous than Purpleheart and not too lighit for a cue either, but i would want to core it.i don't see weight being a problem either.my only consern would be using it for a forearm and not coring it.i am sure it would be OK anywhere if cored, but for me it would only make it to the handle and not the forearm.

The reason I ask is because I have a customer that wants a cue between 15-17oz. I thought about using it as a forearm and butt sleeve with a curly/beye maple handle or vice versa. I bet it would make good looking inlays!!

Thanks for the feedback.

the weight isn't too far off Maple but it is definitely softer.i would core it with Maple and i get it comes in around 16oz.

Fairly heavy hard maple forearm and sleeve, titanium or g-10 joint pin, koa handle.
