Woodpecker cues?

Anyone shoot with these or have any time with one? Are they similar in any way to the old 5280 line? Are these cues decent or made in Asia like the 5280's?

They are made by Jacoby cues in USA. I shoot with a Jacoby and I think it plays and hits good. I assume the woodpecker's play the same as all other Jacoby's.

They had a good opportunity to market these cues after the last US open, but failed to do so. I'm sure there are a lot of people who would buy a Woodpecker because Corey plays with one.

I don't know ...

But I kind of think a better name could have been picked.
Woodpecker sounds too blue collar, and not classy enough, IMO.

Me too. I've got a Jacoby that retails for around $650
and it hits great.

Yes, they are made by Jacoby, and yes Corey does use a predator shaft, but the cues come with their own shaft. I believe there may also be a jump/break cue with a purpleheart shaft as a choice.

When I watch pool on tv, I try to see how they compensate for deflection when they spin the ball. It didn't look like Cory had to compensate at all.

When I watched the ESPN reruns of the Legends of Pocket Billiards, you could see Jimmy Moore and Wimpy compensate a lot, even on short shots, especially when they used high inside.

I have to compensate a lot with my new Viking. Arg.

With Predator shafts, the cue ball pushes the shaft aside instead of the shaft pushing the cue ball, reducing deflection. Less cue ball deflection also reduces shaft vibration and allows for more spin.

I wish my wife would talk to me like that. ;)

Glad I made someone's day ;)

I'm such a nerd... I love when someone talks physics, chemistry, or other related subject matter to me :p

You were able to pick that up on those crummy old taped shows?? They never even had good camera angles. Besides, how do you know if they were compensating or just using back hand english? Would you be able to figure out what Efren or Bustamante is doing?

how the hell can u SEE someone compensate???? even when im playing someone without a predator i cant SEE them compensate. the term compensate is in reference to where they are aiming and where they are actually striking the object ball, and u are saying u can SEE this??? on t.v.???the ball may squirt a tiny bit but i wouldnt ever say i saw him compensate. but watching on t.v. i never really seen the ball squirt cause of the camera angles unless it was a twist shot.

drivermaker: There were a couple shots where the camera was looking back up the cue so you could see his aim point on the cue ball, when he needed to juice the ball with high inside to get out of the corner.

I've seen Efren play at Shooters in Riverside, and there are some shots where you can see him compensting.

Marissa: Thanks for explaining, BUT I ALREADY KNEW THAT. I heard somewhere that Cory used a Woodpecker cue, so I just assumed that they either came with a "magic" shaft, or that because Cory is Cory, he doesn't need to compensate when he spins the ball. I didn't know that he used a Predator shaft until now.

My Viking dealer let me hit a few with a Predator P2, AFTER I picked up my special order 62" Viking. What a difference. I wish he had shown it to me before I ordered. I'm about ready to go back to my old cue, with its thin, whippy shaft. Good wood, though, and much less deflection. The ferrule is about 11.4mm, and you can see in the photo that the shaft necks down a little. I bought the cue in 1966, and used to sand it.
