A friend of mine has emailed me with this address for rules of one pocket.

http://www.easypooltutor.com/article103.html

He asked me if the rules for opening break are written accurately. I sure don't believe they are, at least not how I'm reading it.

The rules say here (please correct me if I am reading wrong) once you make contact either a ball has to go to a rail .... or .... a "CALLED BALL must be pocketed.

I think this called ball is written incorrectly. Am I mistaken?

It references called ball again under rules of play heading and scoring heading also ....??

No one in their right mind is going to give up the Break. And you don't have to "call" a ball for it to count on the break.

jay, I never mentioned giving up the break. I'm saying these are supposed to be the official rules (according to the first paragraph) and I was very surprised to see these mistakes in the writing.

In those rules, it says the winner of the lag can take the break or give it to his opponent. That is what I referred to. You did want some feedback on those "rules", didn't you?

Well, of course you wouldn't be giving up the break often unless of course you were playing someone who would mess it up enough to make it to your advantage to do so.

The point is, I suppose, that giving up the break, while not the norm, is not a misprint or written in error. It is an allowed move.

I was so surprised to see the term called ball, that I thought I was reading into it too much or incorrectly myself. So my thoughts were directed more toward that. :)

And I answered that as well. Put that pipe down son.

Ha, oh I'm way too old to be smoking that wacky stuff.

You and I are on different pages together, thats all.

I know its not necessary to call balls in 1pkt, I suppose I'm reading it correctly then, and you also agree, so now all that needs to be done is letting the people who write the offical rules know. :)

Who wrote those rules? And by the way, you're never to old, I've been told.

I just looked at my BCA rule book. The part about the Opening Break is totally different. No reference to choice of breaker, and nothing about called balls.
