Is there one existing?
I know Derby City Clasic has one but it has 500 players, 90% amateur, and the weird re-draw system.
should this be considered the World Title for banks?

About 30% of 90% of those no names Amateur beat the top 9 ballers in bank for the cash.. I like what the late but great Eddie Taylor said about Lexington Ky, No where in the world had he seen as many people run 8s and outs.. in one little town...

Banks tournaments - World???

Lately there seems to be a lot of thoughts about establishing "World" events as a good move. On the contrary, I think it has a real possibility of cheapening the sport and lessening the respect our sport gets.

Read Mike Panozzo's column in this months Digest. Whether you agree or not, he points out that an 8 player field does not make a World Championship. And in the 10 ball arena, there is possiblity going to be 2 World Championship's. (One is the upcoming WPA and one is CW).

Also, in the area of banks, Derby City (which I am part promoter/owner) is a short rack game - meaning only 9 balls are used. A much easier game than say Full Rack Banks (using all 15 balls).

All of this being said, let me point out that the upcoming Qlympics event (go to www.playbca.com - and click on the Qlympics banner) has 4 US OPEN events. Full rack banks is one of them (the others are 14.1 - 10 Ball - One Pocket).

These are open events - limited to 128 players (except 10 ball at 256). There is a minimum of $5,000 added per event, plus an additional $100 per player over 50 players. A full Field would generate $64,000 ADDED.

Obviously played on Diamond Tables with pro-cut pockets. This will become an annual event and will grow. The goal is to make it bigger every year - and to have large fields and larger prize funds.

I am hoping that a lot of AZer and others will stop by and see the event. Accu-stats will be there - as well as the posssibility of internet feeds. There will be a 24/7 action room and late night food and drink.

Mark, you're right, the difference between 9ball bank and full-rack is like a quickie and an all-nighter. You must be able to perform in an all-nighter. Plus I still think the Joe Burns Dayton Oh, format of 3 full racks and the first one to 23 is the best way to play. You bank until all the balls are off the table.
