world cup group results - games are 40 points!

Amazingly, Blomdahl finished 3rd in his group of 3 due to a very bad game against Santos-Oliveira.

Kasidokostas was eliminated by his loss to Takeshima in the group phase.

The high run so far is 14. I see that they are recording first and second high runs for each player -- is that significant?

OP, the tournament is NOT a World Cup, but, "The World Championship".

Where's Pedro, I thought he would play???
I believe that the timing of the CPB championships was such that the US could not send players and the US only sends players that have finished well in the CPB championships. An exception would be if a US player broke into the top 12 ranked players in the world, I think.

Oh no.... Pedro is playing his best right now... It's time to showcase the San Diego Beast and get some pride for the United States billiard fans...

Regarding the different formats: best of five sets of 15 points each and one single game of 40 with equallized innings. What are the advantages and disadvatages of these formats concerning both the organizers and the world class/top world class players?

What if there is a tie btw the two player in the 40 pts match? who win?

The length of the sets format is more unpredictable. Fast players may finish in three sets with a total of 45 points scored and slow players may finish in five sets with a total of over 140 points.

In terms of separating the wheat from the chaff, either can do the job. Apart from the psychological effects -- maybe the end of a set can give the loser a new start, or maybe not -- it is possible to calculate that a best-of-five is close to a single game to 53 for the chance of the better player winning.
