World Cup of Pool 2018 Thread

They say the UK and USA are separated by a common language.
Well, the gap is lessening.

I actually heard a commentator with a British accent call a 7-9 a combination...
...I’m used to them calling it a plant.

And the American commentator was going on about potting balls, and I even heard him talk about a screw back.

Go Team USA

Ref missed foul :(

Just watched my saved match of Netherlands vs. Thailand. Late in the match Thailand plays a safety on the 4 ball and Beisterboch has to jump. I see the 8 ball move before he hits the 4. Ref apparently doesn't see it move, but I do. Basically costs them that game, although the Thai player has a shot he probably should have made. I was really impressed with their play against a tough team.

Looking forward to tomorrow's matches.

It looks to me like you are correct, and it is surprising that no one seemed to notice. The shot occurs at about 53:30 in Game 10 with the score 5-4 in Holland's favor.

Poland vs Kuwait at the 22min mark...Kuwait have broken their what!?! Lol. I have no idea what he said but I know what it sounds like to me. :yikes:

I can’t, or don’t know how to, link the time in the vid from my phone, but it’s at the 22min mark.

Ha! They sure did
:rotflmao:

Hey did anyone notice Kevin Chang on Taipei using AZ's Renfro's Outsville Great White chalk?
They had a quick jump cut to a close up of the label in one of the bumper montage clips as Kevin sets it on the rail throughout the match.
Looked like it was the blue mako edition.

That 11 channel is available with other providers. Their web site lists the channels if you put in your zip code and cable company. http://elevensportsusa.com/where-to-watch/

Don't necessarily get your hopes up here. I put in my provider and zip code and it told me "we have you covered-channel 1159 in your area. I punch it in on the TV and i get ????-Then i look on the guide and there is no 1159 there either.

-Many one sided matches. So far no hill hill matches. Already 2 whitewash matches
-Only 1 upset so far Scotland over Canada
-Few countries did not send their A team - England, Philippines, Taiwan, Holland
-Many young kids and teenages- Kaci, Wiktor Zielinski, Gorst, Kong deJing, Filler. Filler is probably the oldest of the bunch at 20

Gillespie is on great form just now, and Jayson Shaw is well.. Jayson Shaw, hardly think it was a big shock.

Also, that IS Holland's A team, Nicky van den Berg has retired for now...

Marc Bijsterbosch is the number two ranked Dutch player after Niels. The guy who runs him closest, Marco Teutscher, is playing for New Zealand in this!!

Gonna need some details on Van den berg retirement because this is the first love heard about it....does he have an alternate career to fall back on? I was of the understanding that he would be on the short list of Dutch players that get an income from their country.

I know pool players have a habit of retiring and then coming back in a year...is there hope for Nick to come back or was this final?

Do you remember who it was? One of the commentators they use is a snooker player and I think he's from Canada.

I don’t see Scotland over Canada as an upset. Gillespie just won a brutally gruelling 3 day 128 player English 8 ball tournament and is as good as anyone at pool games. Not really a 9 ball player but any weakness in that regard pretty much evaporates in scotch doubles when your playing partner knows the game inside out. For England, Appleton and Melling have been kept very busy recently and Boyes’ form appears to have taken a bit of a dip. Mark Gray is a very experienced team player who handles this kind of environment well.

It’s good to have some younger players in the tournament and I reckon most of the teams have a chance of taking it down if they can find some form and get some rolls.

Yeah, he got an income from the government when he medaled in European championships. So it was not a guarantee, though he managed to do this several years in a row in various disciplines. He is now working at the biggest casino in Amsterdam. I don't know if he will come back, but he seemed pretty decided that he'd had enough.

Did anyone notice this rack? It happens on the opening rack, here is the recording on YouTube.

Unbelievable! Both Spanish players took a good look at this rack so they knew what was going on. I guess they were hoping to make the nine on the break. How is it possible that no one else saw this glaring error? The whole arena must have been sleep walking into this first match of the day!
