World Cup Of Pool updates!

Bruno Muratore is ranked 2nd in Europe right now, and has had an amazing 1,5 years of playing pool now, considering he is 40+ and this is his best year ever.

I will definitely go for Italy in that matchup, but that is because I don't know much of Korea...

My guess on the other matches:

China (1) vs. Switzerland (16)

Italy (9) vs. Korea

England (5) vs. Canada

Poland (13) vs. Germany (4)

Belgium vs. Austria

Croatia vs. USA (6)

Holland B vs. Japan (10)

Philippines (2) vs. Russia (15)

You're two out of two so far Roy!

Anyone else notice Francisco Bustamante has 'Watching cockfights' listed as his hobby on his profile page........lmao

I had to do a double take when I first saw it...haha

What the hell is going on,they could finish this tournament in 3 days.It seems like they play one day, take the next off.Wow.

how were they chosen?

. . . with regards to this tournament, how were the teams put together? I ask this because of the conflict in the Philippines. If the national governing body of pool (BSCP) chooses who represents the Philippines in tournaments, then how did Bustamante and Orcullo get chosen? Taking into consideration both players animosity for the BSCP.

I'm guessing this was some kind of special invite deal.

Hi Kano, you are right, Matchroom invited Dennis and Django directly.

Thnx Virginia for the quick reply as I've been wondering the same thing myself!

Philippines impress again in victory over Russia

Orcollo%20and%20Bustamante.jpg

Philippines continued their impressive form during the 2008 PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool.

Francisco Bustamante and Dennis Orcullo thrashed Denmark 8-2 in the first round and they
followed that up with an 8-3 success over Russia.

Philippines won the event in 2006 and look a good bet to repeat that triumph as they have
arguably looked the best team in Rotterdam.

They now meet the likeable and always-joking Japanese team of Satoshi Kawabata and Naoyuki
Oi in the quarter-finals on Saturday evening.

The Philippines took the opener but the Russians levelled it in the second before an illegal break
in the third allowed the Philippines to move ahead.

The measured run out from the break gave the Philippines a 3-1 lead and then a monster break
from Bustamante came up dry to let Russia back to the table. They made a poor safety attempt
leaving a 1/9 combo which Orcullo missed.

With most of the balls on the rails, the Russians came unstuck as Stepanov stuck the cue ball
to 9 going from 6 to 7 and Chinakhov missed the pot with hampered cueing. Bustamante played
a great safety and although Russia's escape was good, it left the 7 ball on.

The Philippines made it but Bustamante left his team mate a nasty thin cut on the 9 and although
Orcullo made it, the cue ball eventually scratched into the centre pocket and gift the rack to Russia,
to move the score to 2-3.

However, the Philippines got to the table to re-establish a two rack lead at 4-2. With the Brunswick
Gold Crown breaking extremely tough, there was another dry break. The Russians though missed one
though and Bustamante and Orcullo ran out for 5-2.

An illegal break from the Philippines saw the table returned to the Russians. A poor shot from Chinakhov
allowed the Pinoy duo to clear but Orcullo missed a bank shot on the 6 ball.

Chinakhov blundered again,as he missed the brown 7 into the top pocket. Busta missed a table length
bank on the same ball , before Stepanov took his turn to miss. Finally it was Orcullo who dropped it and
the score moved onto 6-2.

There was further dry break action in the next but an out-of-sorts Chinakhov missed the 1 ball. Both
sides had chances before Orcullo played a bad safety on the six ball to give the Russians a chance and
they took it for 6-3.

The last two racks were easier going for the Philippines as they took full advantage to secure an 8-3
victory. They will now meet Japan on Saturday evening in the quarter-finals.

Now let's get down to the nitty-gritty, who do you like Nostradamus?
1202.gif

China (1) vs. Italy (9)

England (5) vs. Germany (4)

Austria vs. USA (6)

Philippines (2) vs. Japan (10)

The book has only one match to offer for the quarterfinals, Italy (11-10) against
China (4-6). Here are the odds of all the 8 teams winning the whole thing:

Philippines - 13/8

USA - 11/4

China - 5/1

Germany - 7/1

England - 9/1

Italy - 12/1

Japan - 18/1

Austria - 25/1

The quarterfinals starts at 1 pm local time, or 4 am Pacific/7 am Eastern, which is about 11 minutes away. The afternoon session will feature China (1) vs. Italy (9), and England (5) against Germany (4). The Evening session, which starts 5 hours later, will also feature two quarterfinals matches, Austria vs. USA (6) and Japan (10) vs. the Philippines (2).

I hope somebody can provide a link to a live stream, or we can settle for a blow-by-blow if there's no stream...

At the recent WTBC, on that week during tournament, I staked Gomez/DeLuna against Kawabata/Oi at Oneside for 20T, 9-Ball, Race to 13 Doubles. G/D won handily with a score of 13-6. Only a miracle will defeat the pinoy pair. :D
