World Cup of Pool Updates

And that's a good thing... coz I've seen better play by amateurs in the local pool hall.

Korea 5-1, after a 6th frame that would bring tears to a pool aficionado's eyes.

When we started seeing Europeans play American Pool, we said the same thing. The Europeans in the late early 90's were just terrible. But, look at them today.

It won't be long before the other countries that are currently at the amateurish level will join in all the fun at the elite level.

Terrible shot by Li He Wen to miss a near dead plant on the 9, (commentators are numbskulls btw), lets Romania in for a 5-2 lead.

In his defense, his partner left him a little off-angle, making the combo harder. I think Jim Wych gives incredible insight, great commentator. Ted Lerner, not so much.

Indeed, all it needs is a couple of talented smart guys applying themselves for a few years.

True, his partner undershot it, but he still should have made it. He didn't read it well.

I do like the commentary but on that shot, they hadn't observed that Li He Wen instructed his opponent to play for the plant. I guess not always easy to follow what's going on in the commentary booth.

[Edit]: I'll take some of that excusing of the commentary back... Jim Wych spoke a bunch of crap in the lead up to Romania cracking. Li He Wen's safety attempt was excellent, but unfortunate, and he wasn't slumping, he's dumpy by nature. He's got more grit in him that Jim Wych ever had. Lerner's not much better. Romania playing ok, but doing a Ko Pin Yi here so far! They've slopped about 6 balls in that were badly hit!

Buckets!!!
Yes, everything is dropping... and Romania got the roll of those buckets and the breaks and safeties to steal a 7-3 luck ball victory. They played ok, but would be lucky to win 10 in a race to 21 against that Chinese team if that were the format.

Not buckets but more so that the cloth is brand new, so it's easier to pocket the balls. Not gonna be like this in the finals though, the table will get a little bit more worn by then.

New cloth is playing a big part too, but still they're buckets. Just look the 7ball Canada made in the previous rack. Missed it by a diamond and still went in. SVB had a similar shot in the WC final and, naturally, the ball didn't go in.

Sliding Rails a Menace!

Any chance TV pool producers could look into spraying the tables with a grippy substance so the rails take spin properly and 4 inch pockets don't play like 8 inch pockets?

These brand new cloths make the game more of a joke!
