World Cup of Pool

Sloppy match to this point. Big drop down in quality from the first semifinal. Philippines lead 3-1.

Dry break by Taipei leaves a tricky layout Dennis makes the one but leaves iffy shape on the two. Lee Van makes a fantastic shot to make the two and get short side shape on the three. The rest is easy, and Team Philippnes leads 4-2.

World Cup of Pool VIII

I love that Nick van den Berg. It is really nice to see him shine brightly in the pool world. After the IPT folded, he took a hiatus from pool. We communicated with him in the online poker websites a few times right after IPT, and he said he had given up on pool.

Looks like he's had a change of heart, and it's a good thing for Holland that he did. Bravo, Nick!

Yeah, Nick is a quality guy who is easy to root for. The same can be said of Niels. They respect the game and their opponents and, oh yeah, they shoot pretty straight.

Team Philippines now leads 5-2. A beautiful two ball by Orcullo set up the runout in rack 7.

Dennis and Lee Van are now in stroke, and just ran out a tough rack for a 6-2 lead.

Each side made a mistake in rack 9, but the Philippines prevailed for a 7-2 lead.

Jimmy Wtch is my favorite match commentator, but he has been a little off form in this match. Wych was inexplicably baffled by Orcullo's choice not to play a four ball that he, quite clearly, couldn't see. As ridiculous was Wych's claim that Ko's bad miss was because he hadn't hit a ball in a few minutes. At this level, they are all used to long trips to the chair, and it's part of what makes them champions, which all four of these guys are. No excuses, please.

Incidentally, has anyone figured out what the difference between "finding the break" and "finding the measure of the break" is?

A scratch on the break by Lee Van set up Taipei and they have pulled to within 7-3. The key shot was a nice five ball by Ko to get short side shape on the six. Still not looking good for them, however.
