World Cup

What happened to Phil? I would have hoped this would be a close and thrilling fight at least...

Roberto Gomez fell apart. It's very obvious he has a problem handling the pressure in finals like the other guys do. Every shot he shot was out of line for Dennis. Dennis had to make a tough or awkward shot everytime and got Roberto back into line.

China's 2nd title of world cup of pool

congratulations to team China with 10-5 win against pillipino!

Wow. That explains it. I've looked at Gomez's profile here in AZ and he has never won ANYTHING but usually ends up close in big tournaments though.

Congrats to China for the World Team win.
I can't imagine the pressure the PI team felt. You are playing for your counrty in front of your people. Your playing for your partner. Your playing for $60,000 of which half is for your partner. Very, very, very few players wouldn't feel that kind of pressure. Overall a great tournament. Thanks Matchroom and thanks Jay for your as usual great broardcasting. Johnnyt

I can't remember ever watching a more emotional pressure packed macth in all my years in pool. The finals should be another match for the pool history books. Johnnyt

PS: I wonder who the first promotor in the US to put a tournament in a mall will be?

CW put one on in Hampton, VA. It was at the end of the mall in an empty store. My true estimate of how many people came in from the mall-4 all weekend.

It was also in the format- single elimination race to 15 that "all UPA events" were going to be. Bustamante won it and after people started saying he would win them all, they changed the format.

Yes, that was in a store, and at the END of the mall at that. I'm talking out in the mall like the World just was and free admission. I'll bet the mall would make sure it got some news coverage before and during the event.
I did mail order in the 1970's and 1980's and a guy that ran a pretty big mail order company told me to copy something that was selling big and give a better price, or better service, or something free with it. I did pretty good making Pink Ice rings, pendants, and tennis bracelets for over a year until I got bored making them. Johnnyt

Orcollo showed nerves too. What about the pressure on China knowing that if you miss the crowd will erupt?

I could never ever get used to an opponent, or opponent's gallery cheering a miss or mistake. I got on a Team's Captains ass at the BCA in May, when their wives and girlfriends were doing the same thing. We ended up squeaking the win out.

I feel bad for Dennis and Roberto, but seeing the crowd trying to shark China on those last couple of balls made me glad China won. That was so disrespectful.
