World Pool-Billiard Association

The question is, are they interested in doing it.

Would be interesting for someone who has KT's ear to ask her if they have spoken about anything like this at any of the LO meetings in Vegas... either formally or informally...

CSI and the WPA

Now for the jawdropping part of my reply...

FWIW, I believe that CSI is much more qualified to lead pool in North America than the BCA. That is just my opinion, and I know many will disagree with me about that, but trust me - they are far more equipped and organized to lead the way - and more importantly, they honestly give a shitt about the game.

I'm not sure if CSI wants anything to do with the WPA - maybe they are willing to take over, maybe they're not. I don't think anybody can do a worse job than is being done now - and perhaps a change is what we need. Not my decision to make - just giving out my thoughts about who should be driving the bus.

CSI and I thank you for your kind words. I have been supportive of the WPA - especially the last few years. I was instrumental to the BCA still supporting the WPA. There was a time when the BCA just about dropped that relationship.

That being said, CSI would love to be more involved with sanctioned events. We have done a lot of events for pool players - many of them where no membership is required. Jay Swanson 9-ball (now in its 14th year), - the US Bar Table Championship event (now in its 17th year) and other independent events.

We also are running the NCS which will create a true National Champion in 5 disciplines. We also own the US OPen titles in most disciplines (Not US Open 9-ball). We plan on having these events and build pool from the amateur to the pros.

And most importantly, we are now forming USA Pool Leagues - which will provide a funding source for the pros. Don't say there are no people to do it - because we are doing it. It just takes more time than we wanted to make it start happening.

Anything we can do to further pool in the US - we are all for it.

Steve,

I didn't read the whole thread, but when I was talking to Fran Crimi, not too long ago, she told me that she is on the board of the WPA (one of the North America reps?).

Maybe you should have a conversation with Fran?

Eric >Comet Billiards next Friday

North America has two members of the current board of directors of the WPA.........Fran Crimi and Jerry Forsyth. These are the people through whom any suggestions for improvement in the existing WPA set up and how it impacts upon pool in North America should be channeled to WPA.

If it is not sanctioned that is interesting because I believe there is a tournament comming up in the Netherlands "Dynamic Dutch Open" and it may coincide with the Galveston event and I bet the "Dynamic Dutch Open" is "sanctioned" . Note the payouts are quite generous for the Galveston event I wonder what the payouts for the "Dynamic Dutch Open" are.

First prize for Eurotour events is not much more than 6000€ (three zeroes). Entry fee is 150€. Prize money is very bad, especially if you consider how many great players participate and how hard it is to win these events.

Note that one Euro Poster was emphasizing the low "price monies" payouts re the upcomming World 14.1 at Comet as not qualifying for WPA sanction now we see a higher paying tournament at Galveston but still no WPA sanction.

The Eurotour Austria is one of 7 yearly ranking tournaments, determine which Europeans will play Mosconi Cup, World Championships etc., so it is not just about prize money.

Another important thing to remember is that you can't compare the prize money at an Eurtour and a World Championship. It is expected that a World Championships has bigger payouts than an Eurotour, if not, it doesn't deserve the name World Championship.

This time the 1st prize at the Predator Championship is about the same as an Eurotour, therefore it can not be sanctioned as a World Championship.

As far as Galveston, they could have checked the calendar at WPA before they schedueled their tournament, and then they would have seen that there are already 2 sanctioned tournaments that week, both in Europe. The Eurotour Austria and the Predator Tour in Portugal.

I feel confident that the people behind Galveston never even bothered to ask or check the WPA-site, and WPA will only sanction tournaments that work together with the WPA.

I'm for all pro -players making $$$ - I may root for USA but in the end may the best person win - I don't hope one particular country will lose as some people do - I don't see why the WPA did not sanction the Galveston perhaps some of the Euro players may have wanted play in it and if the Euro players know how important the Euro tour is why does Gre Leenders
"advise" players that the Galveston event is not sanctioned by WPA and ECBF and not to attend.

I thought you always wanted players to have a shot at making $$$ so you agree with what Leenders said to your own Norges Biljard?? Suppose someone wants to take a shot at Galveston what are the ramifications??

all of a sudden, I noticed WPA been given a proper name by my browser  And the reason is obvious, it's circled

This thread iss just as enlightening now as when I read it for the first time. Thanks to all the different points of view and re-reading this thread reminds me to finish researching more about what everyone has said here.
