Currently, flights to Bahrain are about $1000 from NYC and about $1200 from California. The best hotel option seems to be about half an hour away at $120 or so per night.
April 2027 is a long way off, but the current climate in that region of the world, you couldn't pay me a million dollars to fly there, much less stay in the region for a few days.
Empty stadium, quite arena, silence matches
Well done to Matchroom for getting this back on the calendar.
Empty stadium, quite arena, silence matches
Bring it to Taiwan, Vietnam, The Philippines or Cardiff or Vegas/Taxes/Florida please, get a deal with a betting company as the main sponsor, and work with the local government for tourism destination promotion, have it broadcasted in Asian ESPN, European Sky Sport, and USA ESPN plus streaming. The local government will help with prize money, they can get more $$$ from sponsors as well (in Asia, if local GOV. "asks", local companies and global corporations like Samsung, Toyota etc. will put in money right away, hell they never pay a dime in taxes as one of the perks so $1mil donation is nothing..., $1mil is easy maybe make it $2mil, in Europe, many betting companies will sponsor, $1mil is a drop in the bucket, in USA get Predator and CueTec etc. to sponsor lol, sign 2-3 year deal, do it in summer (May - Aug) for travel purposes as well... start to work now maybe 2028/2029/20230 we can have a real Word Pool 9-ball Championship like we had in 2000 - 2007 as well...
It could be 100% free and i wouldn't go. I have ZERO desire to go anywhere in the ME. This deal will be Qatar with less fans if that's even possible.Currently, flights to Bahrain are about $1000 from NYC and about $1200 from California. You are usually a very sensible poster, Skor. But not in this thread. Matchroom cares about the World Pool Championship and it's not going to give the rights away for free. Nobody gives rights away for free. They should give the event to the WPA and Predator who already run the world 8 & 10 ball championships.
Otherwise it’s just a name for another stop on the tour
Not a fan at all of sets, but in any case, MR has treated the WPC with a sports approach since it gained rights to the event. Like it or not, MR located the event in the Middle East to make it the most lucrative event in pool. Prize fund is more than triple the biggest Predator prize fund.Reyes Cup is just entertainment, good entertainment but still, just entertainment.
A world championship should have a more sports approach to it and I think that the WPA are doing a fine job.
War with Iran was a big, obvious curveball. So was the Saudi decision to back off sports subsidies. Neither could have been anticipated by MR.Back in the day when MR basically only did the Mosconi and the World 9Ball Championships, it stood out among the other pool events.
Today, it’s just another event that looks the same with a different backdrop.
It so insignificant to MR that they don’t hold it this year because they were too busy with other events that are more entertaining.
It is the most lucrative event.I like MR and what they are doing, but not all is great.
The world 9ball championship should be the most lucrative event.
When did you get so sassy, sir?You are usually a very sensible poster, Skor. But not in this thread.
Holy run-on sentence Batman. I had to catch my breath to finish reading this. I like your line of thinking though, but definitely easier said than done.Empty stadium, quite arena, silence matches

My oh-so-subtle schtick is not for the easily butthurt or the thin skinned. Those that can't fade it are encouraged to put me on Ignore. I regard that as a badge of honor. When did you get so sassy, sir?
You woke up and chose violence. I like it. That is thegarczarAzB way.
Hah. I can't hold a candle to Garczar. I've been on the receiving end of his missives more than a few times because of my ... wordiness! When did you get so sassy, sir?

And it is, 250K first prize!Reyes Cup is just entertainment, good entertainment but still, just entertainment.

Go at your own risk. Our intelligence service has issued warnings about traveling there.ffs..
i guess there are no military bases left to bomb in bahrain, so in that sense it ought to be safer than saudi. but how about getting out of the area altogether? and never returning
How much is your life worth? Feel like taking a chance.Currently, flights to Bahrain are about $1000 from NYC and about $1200 from California. The best hotel option seems to be about half an hour away at $120 or so per night.
Keith once told me he'd play on the floor if they put up enough money!I would rather them lower the prize fund and just have the World Championship in Frisco, Texas or Orlando, Florida.
But I'm sure the players would prefer to play for $250K in the dark with no fans.
