World Sraight Pool Championship

I hope Mika plays as well. He also can play some mean straight pool... oh yes he can. Mika was the only player to beat Hohmann in straight pool at the EPC. He did it in the team event semi final running out the match to 125 in two innings: 42, 83.

Mika's chances go way up if the pockets are nice and tight.

The last big straight pool tournament-the US Open was won by a European (Ralf) with an Asian who no one had even heard of (Min-Wai Chin) in second.

Chin was one of the best 14-1 players in taiwan at that time.

Ah, no. Too much expenses and too little talent (talking about me). Maybe someday when I really know how to not miss easy shots and have enough $$ to go. Until then... I just root for Mika !

I. like most pool purists are very excited about this upcoming World championship 14:1 tournament.

After a few months of preliminary discussions with Charlie and Dragon Promotions, I decided to bring this event to fruition, and ultimately to the fans, where it belongs. It has been too long since the last event (2000).

I only agreed to fund this event with the premise that this will be an annual torurament. Dragon Promotions was lock-step in their thinking.

I personally guarantee that this will be a "world-class" event worthy of the interest of all staight pool lovers across the globe.

See you in the spring.

RG

BTW, SJM, I have a ticket for you.

Do the players have to wear tuxedos? Is accu stats onboard in taping this great event? Will any women champions be invited, Corr, Fisher, Jones and Balukus? Will Mike Sigel snap another shaft (we will need a vbookie on this one)?

How about pocket size, buckets or pro cut? Diamond table or Gold Crowns? Will Jim Rempe be there to play? Is there a motel 6 near the event? Any new rules going to be implimented for this event?

I certainly appreciate you doing what you can to put on a world class straight pool event. I absolutely love straight pool.
However, would you consider having this event outside of the New York City area? I have nothing against New York, but the cost of staying in New York would just about double the cost for people to attend, over almost any other city in the Norteast. It is a great city, but extremely expensive. You may get better attendance if you took this tournament to another location.

I appologize to those who live in NY.

Unfortunately for those living outside of NYC, the costs of coming to this tournament will be high.

The fact is NYC has (in my opinion) the greatest interest for straight pool.

Also, because I live in NY, and am putting up the cash for this event, I really don't want to travel.

I can certainly appreciate your feelings.

Thanks for the reply.

You want three guys against the field? PM me with your wager...

Alex was 6-1 with Stan James to win the 9 Ball World Championships and he was only one guy in a bigger field in a game with much more luck involved.

I have the reigning US Straight Pool Champion, the guy generally regarded as the best in the World (Hohmann) and a dark horse who i saw beat John Schmidt 2 out of 2 gambling in straight pool.

Im not looking to bet big but check your PM's.

Thanks, RG, I'm very grateful. I know it's gonna be a great event, and I greatly admire you for what you're doing for pool. I'm sure that me and all the locals will have a grand old time cheering on our NYC cronies like Ginky, Tony R, Danny B, Steve L, Jonathan S and several others as they go up against what is shaping up as a superstrong field.

To those who haven't had the pleasure of meeting RG, who is funding this wonderful event, believe me, he has a profound appreication for and love of straight pool. Any straight pool event he'd associate himself with is certain to be a very special one, so we're all in for a real treat.

A couple of questions

I've got a couple of questions for the organisers. First off, will the event be sanctioned by the World Pool Association, thus giving us Official World Championships in all 3 major disciplines for which there are "World Standardised Rules".

Secondly, will the event be broadcast anywhere - either TV or (more likely) online? I think it is safe to say that there are plenty people who populate these boards that would happily subscribe if (like me) they couldn't get to the tournament in person.

Charlie, congratulations to you and all those at Dragon Productions for bringing back the World Straight Pool Championships. I hope that I get to see it one way or another.
