You mean you don't like the close up shots of random balls falling into a pocket. Not showing how it was hit, or the difficulty of the shot, just ball after ball being filmed dropping into a pocket. That's about as exciting as watching paint dry. and if I don't care, the non playing pool public really does not give a flying fudge ;)

Haha, that and run outs with balls placed over every pocket. That's one plus that PHJ had, wide angle shots of the shot making.

What helped was that Mars Callahan could play a little and Bobby Leblanc shot all the hard shots.

Wow

Just watched the first 15 mins of “Virgin Pockets” on Amazon Prime. What a good movie! Not just the pool scenes, or the acting, or the cinematography, but the entire film exhibited a level of artistry and skill that is often missing in pool flicks. Makes me proud to be a pool player. Can’t wait to see where this masterpiece goes from here.

Yep, $4M to make, and it grossed only $500K. That my friends is why it takes more than 2 weeks to write a script. Don't try that at home.

If you want to see a real movie based on bare bones, try "El Mariachi" which was filmed for less than $7K, all actors were friends or family folks with no acting experience except for one guy and they didn't get paid, and the director sold blood to raise the $7K. Decent movie that got the director noticed and got big budget offers after that one.

Well, the ones that keep punching till they get a winner, I’m cheering for them.
...some of the good movies are a matter of luck...
...a great movie can appear from what’s left from the cuttings on the floor.

Johnny Cool was such a movie...low budget black and white in ‘63....
...it was a winner and launched Henry Silva’s career.

Why are there so many TERRIBLE pool movies

Because there are so many terrible movies. The Hustler is a great movie, right up there with the best. Happens to be about pool which is a bonus for pool fans. Color of Money is good too. That’s already probably a good enough
hit rate and puts pool above most subjects that movies are based on.

Baltimore Bullet is fun. Can’t say much more than that but if you like pool it should become a better movie than it actually is.

And if you like billiard sports in general and like things that are a bit different, watch this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HmOlvoqJ2S4

I have to nominate Pool hall junkies. While Virgin pockets had potential as a low budget porn flick...judging by the trailer it is a terrible movie. Pool hall junkies had Christopher Walkin, Chaz Palminteri...and the kid from silver spoons. The bar would have to be set higher.

And it was still a low budget film made for the film festivals...It was never meant for broad release. It did win some awards so it wasn’t all bad

There hasn't been a good pool movie since The Hustler in 1961..Paul should have gotten a academy award for that.Instead they gave him a award later for best actor in The Color of Money...what a token joke...

It may have made a little money back on dvd sales too. There were at least 160 of 'em sold (159 Amazon reviews + the one I own). It's not a great movie, but it's a good pool movie and Rod's last film.

"Virgin Pockets" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIutVllgDiM

It's so horrible, that while it's completely unwatchable, like a trainwreck, it's tough to tun away, LOL. You just keep saying to yourself "this can't possibly get any worse", but, "it's like a nightmare" and does get worse & worse.

Some OK T&A, but not worth the insult to your intelligence.

It said in theaters this fall or whatever. What theaters? JO booths?
