Would a shaft help?

I hope this is the right section for this question...I have an older cue, the shaft and butt are warped (not to bad.) Would getting a new straight shaft make the cue play straighter?? I looked into straighting the butt, not do-able.

depends on where the warp is. what kinda cue? a shaft can help but if the forearm is warped it can still effect play. if its in the handle where you hold or benind it may not effect anything at all

Thanks Dave, I believe the wobble is in the forearm. Shaft may be a waste of money at this point. I may have to unload the cue??

Try not to unload it on anyone that has a fast right hook.
Borrow a straight shaft and see how that works. If you really like the cue then a new shaft might be worth it. If not, it might be adequate for a breaker for awhile even with the warp and all.

if the cue is nice and worth keeping and investing in,you can have a cuemaker cut .020" or so off the cue near the warp.most likely that will straighten it,you will also have to have the shaft taken down or a new one made.obviously a re-finish will be the initial investment and then whatever the cuemaker charges to cut the warp out and the shaft work too.$200-$400 range depending on the shaft.

only catch is it may move again, but it also may stay straight forever.anyway some cues built these days can truly benefit from being slightly thinner in certain spots too, imo.

if the butt is out pretty bad,i wouldn't worry about buying a new shaft and hoping it straightens it together.
