We're the same generation (I'm 59) and I don't know that I agree with all that. What constitutes manners is a moving target. What we learned as kids I think is probably different from what our parents learned. I know bunches and I mean bunches of people in our generation who are as rude as anyone in the younger generation. And I know plenty of younger people (including my kids) who are polite and well manner, so more well mannered than me and I consider myself well mannered. I'd rather deal with a somewhat rude but honest kid than an "Eddie Haskell" type any day.
I think the ill mannered jerks in any generation stand out becaue they're irritating to others. Just like you notice if you've got a mesquito bite making you itchy, but you don't notice if don't have one.
Sometimes the current excessive use of profanity bothers me, but as Lenny Bruce said they're only words they only gain power by our infusing them with power by our reaction to them.
JMHO.
This thread is very confusing it was about sportsmanship and in some areas some folks have a whole other thing going on regarding APA handicaps!!! Oh Well! I guess we do not even respect threads any more! LMAO!!
