Would you pay a grand to play a great player

Would you be willing to pay, $1000.00 or should I say put up $1,000.00 for the privilege of playing say Efrin Rayes, Allison Fisher, or some other great pool player.
A set of 9 Ball Race to 10, and if you won you got to keep your grand, but if you lost you would be out the grand.

Any takers?

No. If I had an extra $1,000.00 that HAD to be spent on pool, I would invest it into more Accu-Stats.

I would rather "interview" a top pro than play a set with them.

Anyway, I'm in action almost every day against the only one capable of always playing pefect, total run out pool. He / she / it never, ever misses.
His / her / its name? "The Ghost"

$1000 will buy alot of accu-stats....

$1000 will get you into alot of tournaments

$1000 will get you into the US Open 2x. So 4 races to 11 instead of 1 race to 10.

$1000 = 20 hrs of lessons @ $50 an hr

all that said....no I dont think so.

If I had a a grand to throw away maybe, but only if I got their grand if I won. Unfortunately, I haven't a grand to throw away.

Dude, put the pipe down. Most of them would love to play a $500 dollar set with you. Heck with getting my own money back, I'd try to pull the upset if I had no choice but to play.

Are you kidding!? Efren Rayes would eliminate me in a matter of min. I wouldnt even remember what the heck happend, all I would see is the 9-ball hitting the back of the pocket 10 times, while Im sitting down.

Some people would (and do) spend that kind of money to play golf with professional golfers (Pro-Am's). However, professional pool players are just too accessible. Anyone can pay a relatively small amount of money and play with them in most of the events that they play in (naturally, that excludes invitational events). Like others have suggested, anyone could put up $200/set, and most pro's would likely play due to lack of prize money and the need to make a living. This could be a factor in poor spectator turn-outs at professional events as well. Most of us have all played against the pro's, and are likely to play against them again, so, perhaps, we're less likely to shell out money to go watch them play.

So, to get back to the original question, you'll have a difficult time finding anyone to say "yes" to your proposition.

no way.. cus I'll be playing them soon enough in a year or two. ;) there's no point and cutting practice short to lose a grand when I can practice my ass off and outshoot them for 5. Way more satisfying IMHO.

Dave,
Congrats on your 1,000th post!

I answered your PM also.

If the great player was a player of a different sport, and couldn't play pool a lick... sure, why not. I mean, Lebron James has action.

you can play efren reyes i think for 20-40 dollars a set..so why pay a grand? :D

i woud play Efren a thousand a set if the spot was fair, i'm not going to pay anyone to play, but i'll play anyone if the game is fair.

Uhhmmmmm....Your statement is the easy part of the equation...the hard part is determining what is the "fair" spot...

There are very few that are willing to play anybody with what they "think" is an "unfair - not to thier advantage" spot........

BTW......I went to a event in Riverside that Efren happened to be at and he would play anyone....From what I was watching he was playing people $20 a game one pocket (and giving lots of weight)
