I have 8 years left in the Coast Guard. If Stockton still doesn't have a decent pool room, I am going to strongly consider opening one in that town. I heard a lot of stories of my Grandpa's room thee in the 60's and 70's. Stockton was a good town for pool back in those days.

BTW how's that place in San Ramon? I still haven't been there, and it's only 5-10 miles from my house.

it's nice. i'm going there tomorrow

Nice to meet you Mr. Boyce. Unfortunately, during my come uppance (mid 80's to early 90's), road trips were rare and I never made to Boyce's Billiards; although I know I should have.

Mr. Mike Boyce was a helluva player as I recall.

We probobly met each other back then. I used to get down to Hard Times as much as possible back then, I would have given anything to live close to a room like that back then. You didn't need to make road trips the way L.A. was back in those days.
Yeah, my dad was a real strong player back then. Decent tournament player, very strong gambler. A lot of guys came through Hesperia when traveling from L.A. to Vegas and I'd say he definitely booked more winners than losers while we had that room.

That's a long way from Stockton. Is there any action in that place? Any guys like to play 1P there?

it's the half way point for a couple of friends of mine. i'm not going for action. i've seen some people gambling and some 1 pocket being played. i've also seen a lot of 14.1 being played there.

there seemed to be a good mix of strong and intermediate players there
