WOW!!! $3500.00 added Amateur Women's Event?!?

Holly Ryan has been absolutely awesome! Fantastic tournament promoter and also very pleasent to talk with as well:) Thanks, Holly for getting an event like this set up for us pool starved women:) I know a few men that would of volunteered to shave their legs and wear a skirt (and gone commando, no thanks) to play in this tournament:D.

The tables are nice, the hotel supplies free coffee, soda and h20 during the tournament, there's an on-site mini gym (with 3 machines:grin: ), in-door pool, reasonably priced food and the views up here are absoultely spectacular! I almost feel like I'm in Boulder, Co. I also hear there's a great county, karoke bar down the street:wink: .

Holly said during the players meeting that the casino agreed to host this event for 3 years. Hopefully next year more women (hint, hint Southern Cal) will show up so we can keep this event alive. Next year, ladies!!!

Morning Everyone :)

Thanks to all the fine ladies who were able to attend. I also appreciate those who wanted to attend but due to various circumstances could not make it. Initially I was a little sadened by the turnout, however the caliber of ability has been fantastic. There are changes that are in the works to make the event larger and more accessable from a time and economic standpoint for the coming years.

Yesterday's matches showed the heart and talent of many players, there were two people who battled feeling under the weather yet did not give up or complain. I felt tremendous pride to be a part of a sport where people such as the women who were involved in this event exist.

The staff and management team at the Mazatzal Hotel and Casino as well as Dale Teague, Diamond Products and Predator Cues have been tremendous in their support.

I want to say a heartfelt thank you also to my dear friend and tournament director, Kristie Ortega. She is one of the most brilliantly organized individuals I have ever had the blessing to know. She runs a clear and concise board, communicates well with every one of the players, runs a fair but tight ship and honestly, I wouldn't know what to do without her. She puts up with my flights of creative fancies and is often my voice of pragmatism when I say to her, "hey what about this, what about that".

Thanks again and hope to see you on the road, at an event and at the Mazatzal next year!

Holly

Is this tournament over?

I saw Grace Nakamura's name on the winners side, always a fun lady from what Ive seen. I see her around at local tournaments trying to pick on the boys all the time.

Thanks, Johnnyt. Saturday matches were not as smooth as Fridays' for me. I lost back to back hill-hill matches to Grace N. and then to Heather Loyd:frown:, finishing 5th. It was tough action to swallow, but all in all I had a great time and met many nice people.

Not that I was ever much for tournament play, but did play a few each year. What I noticed over the years is some kind of let down from a lot of the players that were just about unbeatable the day before.

I don't know if their too relaxed after doing so well the first day or over confiedent. I know it use to happen to me almost every second day of a decent size tourny that I played good the first day. But then again I would party all night...so that had a lot to do with me not playing well the next day. And then sometimes you just draw into two buzzsaws in a row.

Congrats on 5th...not bad at all. Johnnyt

Well, I suffer from all the listed above and as well as lack of experience in competetion. I hope to overcome it all someday... because it's getting really old getting close enought to smell the victory but not taste it:mad:

I will get there someday.

I was wondering the same thing, it was a pretty hefty pot. Sunny what did you get for 5th?
It was a small turn out so they may not have put in all of the $3500. Johnnyt

I am pretty sure it was guaranteed and AZ mentioned over 5 G's in the pot.

Payouts

1st) $1300
2nd) $900
3rd) $700
4th) $350
...

Don't know the rest, Sunny what did 5th/6th pay?

I got $230.00 for 5th/6th. I thought the first was $1500? Maybe I looked at it wrong. However, all $3500 was added and 100% of added money plus the entries were paid in full to all 22 players.

I was told that the decision was made over the Players Meeting on Thursday night, which I WAS NOT THERE!!

I know many of ladies shied away from this event because the "Mandatory Player's Meeting" on Thursday night. However, I called Holly and asked for exemption due to certain obligations and she worked it out with me. I am pretty sure there were few other players on the same boat as myself and missed the meeting. There were lessons learned and
Holly R. ran the tourny smoothly and very professionally with the help of Christy Ortega and want to give them a BIG THANKS for all the hard work they had put in for months!

Congratulations to Arizona's own Susan Williams for winning this event. I had no idea she had a nickname. Tsunami is a good one. She is a strong player who plays well under pressure. On top of that she is really nice :)
