WOW BIADO vs. PULPUL Biado forgot to call the 10 ball on the hill and lost

As far as who would want to win a game like that. Oh, maybe the player who throws a hail mary pass at the end of a game, full court shot at the end of the basketball game. They will all take the win.

At least in those two situations, the athlete accomplished something themselves. It might have been a fluke, but they still had to execute.

Totally different than celebrating like a 5 year old on Christmas because your opponent didn't call a shot that couldn't have been more obvious.

you got that right!

When are these players going to learn the rules? Regardless of the behavior of Pulpul there are rules to the game. Just like any other sport. You follow the rules.

The International Challenge of Champions, held at the Mohegan Sun Casino is a call shot tournament that all the Pro's play in, both women and men. It is still televised by ESPN. No one complains about the rules or the money.

What a joke, a turd. A travesty wrapped in a mockery inside a farce.

It's like watching a bunch of bangers who barely know the rules play on league night.

and Efren would have lost a match if the crowd hadnt reminded him to call the 10. Another tourny with rules that accomplish nothing.

perfect summation. These morons (whoever decided on the rules) have ruined what could have been a good tournament and for what-Nothing!!

Shame for the great Biado. No doubt he's kicking himself for the oversight.

I've never felt call shot adds anything to rotation games, and find that I always enjoy nine ball more than ten ball. As we've seen twice this week, however, call shot can subtract from the game.

You have to be kidding, right? It's a 4-player invitational. It only exists because it's televised by ESPN.

Aren't those events 9-Ball, with call shot only on the 9? And it has to be an overt call. But your point is valid.

[2012 was the last year at Mohegan Sun. No men's event in 2013. Women's event in Springfield, MA in 2013. Both events in Valley Center, CA in 2014.]

Rules

.......omg

were you ever driving somewhere when you found yourself making a wrong turn because "that is the way you usually go" but today you are going somewhere else? These guys have not been overtly calling the moneyball all their lives and then insert this rule that ACCOMPLISHES NOTHING (How many 10 Balls were lucked in by these pros this whole tournament ?)
Whoever decided on this rule either has no experience in pool or is a complete moron!

What do you not understand about rules. It is quite obvious this tourny has a rule that you must call the 10 on "any" shot.

Now do I think its fair. No I don't. But I will bet during the players meeting they were made aware of the rules. What do you think?

As far as you analogy of the driving situation. Suppose this.

You drive down a street for 20 years and always make a right turn on a particular street that has a traffic light. For 20 years you were able to make a right turn on red.
Now there's a sign that says "no right turn on red". You have been doing it for so many years it is just natural. You make a right turn on red and a cop pulls you over and issues you a citation.

Play by the rules.

That has to be one of the craziest things I have ever seen. Unbelievable. Pulpul's reaction was about as unsportsmanlike as you can get. They might have been friends before, but who needs friends that act like that? This must have been the running theme for this particular tournament, since it happened to Shane also.

This is indeed one of the craziest things I have ever seen. Unbelievable.

In snooker there is the rule that you have to nominate the colour that you are going to hit(for example, the black). You only do that when you play a long shot or its not clear which colour you are gonna play. Such a thing as this would never ever happen.... this is a prime example of "unsportsmanlike conduct".

It's a bad rule. Yep.

Celebrating an opponent's error is bad form. Yep.

A player should refuse the advantage from his opponent's error. No.

The rules are what they are in a given event, and The referee's decision is final; one should accept it with grace whether it favors him or not.

So Rodney Morris, Efren, and all the guys that cashed played for nothing because two guys forgot the rules and lost?

Do you think they took their prize money? Do you think they'll play the same tournament next week for the same money.

I have played no 9 or 10 Ball on the break, no 9 or 10 Ball in the corner pockets near the rack, no soft break, break from the break box only, win by two, cue ball fouls only, all ball fouls, loser break..., the rules are the rules, you don't have to like them, but once you agree to them, you play by them.

There was no foul, and there is no rule, just a 'requirement' of this particular competition.
How about next time, instead of calling the obvious shot, stand on one leg, and whistle Dixie, makes as much sense

Or just use one set of rules. Wait that would be too easy on everyone, lets not try to bring sense to this sport.

An individual player doesn't have that option.

I agree that a universal rule set would be better.

Ask yourself this: what is the purpose of the 'call the ten ball' rule? Give it a moments thought and you will arrive at this conclusion - the purpose of the rule is to make it so that a player cannot win the game by pocketing the winning ball in a hole other than the intended pocket. That is why we have this rule. There is no other reason. We might call this 'The Spirit of the Rule', to take away false victories due to luck.

Now what happened in this game isn't what the rule was designed to overcome, because it is clear that the player is attempting the ball in the made pocket. This is so clear to everyone, even a beginner who walked in off the street, that the only gentlemanly conduct from the opposing player would have been to decline the foul.

The only sensible result of Biado's shot on the ten ball is that it should be declared the winning shot of the rack. There is the technical interpretation and there is what is clearly just, like in law sometimes the letter of the rule doesn't tell the whole story and the judge has to make a decision based on what the law is trying to achieve. This is so obviously to me a dick move that deserves to be heaped with scorn that I'm amazed that others can defend such conduct.

You dont get it at all-No sense arguing with you. You havent even approached the crux of the matter.

I love pool
I can't stomach being around pool players any longer, I have had my share of moves and all the rest of the crap pulled on me, not only by bangers, World Champs included.

I have competed in different sports at very high levels since I was a young kid.
I loved the pressure, always wanted to be the guy it came down to.
I no longer compete or gamble in pool. I will play for the ticket and that's about it. Many times I pay the ticket if I win.

If I run 100, string multiple racks, run double digits in 3 cushion I am happy with that, just for me.
I choose my game with gentlemen or I don't play, and that's just for the ticket. I have donated my share of cash in my life.

My tolerance and patience has long gone for pool players.
I got to the point where if I were Carlo Biado they are taking me to jail for the disrespect that Ahole showed celebrating like that.

I would accept the loss with some resentment but I would make sure the Ahole never celebrated like that again.
He would remember the day his life changed to respect himself, the game, fellow humans.
For those reasons I play fun fun now.
Earl said it best, The Ugly people

The disrespect in the world today is frightening, I doubt it can be reversed.
EXPECT WHAT YOU TOLERATE

Your right, but the MONEY is real. You might think its a joke, but the players don't, it their job, its how they get paid and they want to win. The Best of the Best have played in it, so they must think its ok too.

I don't like the tournament, but my point is that that tournament has rules, just like this one and they play by them.
