WPA - World Ranking List **NEW**

just wondering, what r the events they use to calculate this thing. It might be europe heavy because the events r all eurotour events. not knocking the euro players. just trying to find out what events they use for the calculations

The WPA have been trying to get this new list together for a long time.

http://www.wpa-pool.com/index.asp?content=players_men

Previous lists where top heavy with European players because other federations I beleive weren't submitting results.

Just curious what everyone makes of this new list?

Efren is 32nd!

(I dropped 30 places lol :p )

congratualations for your placement( 94) in top 100.

our friend from Australia david reljic from Australia is ranked 135 and again under the the name dave Reljic is ranked 208.That is starnge.

Looks like I fell right on off the list.

I guess that's what happens when you don't play a tournament in almost 2 years.

I'm surprised youre off it comepletely but yes if you don't play it doesnt help! (I havent played since last July either)

Thanks Rav, was 61st :(

PS
I think the list used to be European top heavy but now its "fixed" I assume (it was offline for a long time while they were fixing it). They use a couple of tournaments from each region plus the najors I beleive to build up the list

Does anyone know the answer to the above question

I will work it out and clarify that. They have only turned a couple of EuroTour events into WPA World Tour events, and therefore taken the relevant placements on those and applied world points.

The EPBF calendar should give a better indication of World Tour events (do bear in mind that they collapsed the idea of a individual World Tour a few years ago and rolled the Tour Stops into key events held by some of the more established regional bodies on their regular circuit - this is why it might appear to be Euro top heavy, as for a while there hasn't been that tight connection between the WPA and a completely National US body [for the sport not commerce]).

I will dig about.

I am also interested in what events and how they calculate the score? I am not even close to belong on that list, and would like to see how I did "deserve" this place :)

Again - I will try to shed some light on that too later.
But...you will appear on the list if you have played in a World Tour classified event _AND_ if the organisers of that event submitted the results and the field list through to the WPA.

You find out what events are world tour classified, so I can drop out of those events. This list is destroying my action ;)

WPA World Tour 2008 - Schedule

OK - Here's the Tour Schedule :

  1. 18/4/2008 25/4/2008 WPA Men's 8-Ball World Championship Yes Fujairah United Arab Emirates
  2. 29/9/2008 5/10/2008 Raya Sports World 10-Ball Championships Yes Manila Philippines
  3. 19/10/2008 25/10/2008 BCA US Open 9-Ball Championships Yes Chesapeake, VA USA
  4. 1/11/2008 9/11/2008 Matchroom Men's World 9-Ball Championships Yes tba tba
  5. 19/11/2008 24/11/2008 APBU All Japan Championship Yes Osaka Japan

So, it looks like the WPA have evened it out quite a bit from about 3yrs ago, where there were 2 or I think 3 EuroTour Events that qualified for WT points. I do also believe that it is a 3yr rolling point ranking schedule - as opposed to a 1yr ranking list.

Next the points system....

This list is pretty much horseshit.
Tell us what you really feel! hehe

Ste, Gre told me a while back that they took it offline (well over 6 monhts) because only the eurotour were submitting points on time.

They were working on the issue so now its back up and less euro top heavy I assume they have resolved the problem.

From what Ive been told the list will contain a couple of events from the EuroTour, Asia, and UPA tours plus the majors like u listed (which r usually double points scorers).

I can't think of anything fairer to be honest, give's everyone in each region an equal chance.

PS
Good news, I'm going to order some new cloth for my table so that's one thing less to carry down to london for you, oops I mean us:)

Next weekend ok? :p

The list is pretty much evenly distributed, with events around the world. Since their isnt much money in pool in the U.S or a governing body that would pay to send players alot of our good players wont go abroad for anything other than the world pool championships So we will never be that high. If we could afford to send SVB abroad i think we could get him to number 1.
