WPBA Nationals in OR

And really guys, these women are playing for their future. Winning is very important to them. Now is the time to compose themselves, relax, and get in the right frame of mind to start the tournament. they really don't have the time to worry whether or not the brackets are up on-line and filled out.

I have no doubt that people keeping track of everything, making sure that matches are called and start on time are probably conducted by a few of the girls/ladies who are also in the tournament. Idealy the person running the boards would be someone who is not in the tournament, but still, who wants to sit around all day filling in the brackets? The ones at the tournament site, not the ones on-line.

We will get them when we get them.

Jake

Hey Jake,

I, for one, do NOT expect the players to keep us updated. You are totally right that they are playing for their future, livelihood, and etc... However, I do not believe it is unreasonable for the TD or who ever else, to keep the fans posted. Everyone wants pool to be this big sport like baseball, football, basketball...yet the TD's of a major tourney lack the ability to keep the fans that they have now updated. They scroll the stats of a ball game all over the net, the TV, and radio. I don't think anyone here is asking for anything unreasonable.

And yeah, I'd fill out the brackets anytime...it's not that hard...and it is not like it is time consuming either. I don't think anyone here is asking for commentary...just who is playing and the win/loss. I, for one, can even wait on the score.

Eric, I'm pretty sure Kelly Oyama has a laptop at the main desk and she does the updates from there. But I could be wrong.

Ya know Wal, I'm sure it wouldn't be a huge effort to get someone to do the data entry on the matches if Kelly is too busy doing the other stuff. I'm sure alot of people would appreciate it...

Eric >would appreciate it

Eriic,

I believe Kelly Oyama does that, but I could be wrong.

Hey Shark,

I know this is a stretch but maybe someone can suggest to the WPBA to have someone bringa laptop and do sorta-live web updates as it happens(or almost that fast). That would bring them into the 1990's anyway... :p

Eric >just a dreamer

Hey Barbaara ( :D ),

I think you're right about Kelly doing the updates. All I was thinking is that if shes too busy with the other stuff, maybe she can delegate to someone else. Like Landshark77 ;) .

Why do post keep disappearing??

WPBA.com now shows some match results. So far so good for the AZB gals.

Sarah Rousey won 9 - 2 over China Chien, will play Jennifer Chen next.
Melissa Herndon won 9 - 1 over Carol clark, will play Cathy Metzinger next.
Jennifer Barretta won 9 - 1 over Leslie Rogers will play Vivian Villareal next.

Thanx SJM! :D

Is Lisa not playing in this event?? Is it her spot and Alice Rim's spot that create the two byes??

Didn't see Lisa's name in the brackets, looks like she's not in the field. alice rim lost her first match.

The matter of why the field isn't full isn't nearly as simple as you suggest. Even when some of the regulars aren't able to make an event, the WPBA always makes a maximum effort to fill their fields, and they nearly always succeed. Anyway, the 62 player field at the Nationals is a strong one.

I didn't even look for her name. :o Last I heard she was going to play in the GCO. Guess there was a change of plans.

The brackets on WPBA.com show that Val Finnie beat Alice Rim 9 - 5.

The brackets, although not updated, are finally on the WPBA Website. I was wanting to go ( I live in Washington) but work would not allow it. In fact I am working right now. I bet I am the only person on this forum who spends some of their work time checking out the threads.

LOL...OH NO...i look at them about 10 times a day

Thank you sooo much PaulAlex! That was an EXCELENT update, IMO. Especially the Rousey update! I posted her next macth and time in her forum for anyone interested.

Thanx again! :)

Groupie, huh? Well, if it makes your day, consider me your groupie

All kidding aside, I guess I tend to hang with people that have a sense of humor...

Eric >the same

Well Gremlin, I wish your players luck. But I must say that I will be rooting for Kelly Fisher in the Tiffany Nelson match. For statistical reasons I want Tiffany gone from this tourney. The sooner the better. (Eventually, it all comes down to a numbers game. :p ) At this time, Ms. Fisher is not a threat. :D

Thanx again PaulAlex, I hope your trip home is safe. I am sorry that you can not stay longer. :(

And my groupie Eric ...thanx, I soo needed one  , but was it REALLY worth the eye roll???

The WPBA has seemd to improve a bit on their bracket updates. :) Thanx Kelly! They also actually have some tournament highlights up!! The link on he front page was not formated right last night and it is gone this morning. Here is a direct link if you are interested. I wonder who decides who's pictures get taken? It reminds me of EPSN...the same 'ol folks.

Anywho, looks like all the AZ girls who played in this tourney are still in the game. Updated Sarah's next match time in her forum.

Oh yeah...PaulAlex...there is a pedal on the leftside of the gas...use it...it will slow you down. :p Just don't wait until I am in a hurry though....

Actually, Landshark, you are badly mistaken. At the end of WPBA Fridays, three rounds are complete on both the winners side and the losers side. Unreported results of matches played yesterday:

4 matches from Winners Bracket Round 3
3 Matches from Losers Bracket Round 2
4 Matches from Losers Bracket Round 3

WPBA.com is, therefore, 11 matches behind in its reporting, a very low standard, and appears to have reported on only about half the matches from its Friday evening session. Very disappointing.

Finally, this is not about Kelly. Anyone who's ever been to a WPBA event knows Kelly works very hard and has a lot of responsibilities.

You are correct in the fact that WPBA.com is behind on its reporting,
but you are fooled by the notion of Kelly working real hard.

A list of Kelly's responsibilities:
Receive entries and fill the tournament
Open the Wpba booth for sales. (very little selection and the booth is hardly ever open)
Update the website(speaks for itself)
Take photos for the website (mostly on TV rounds)
Distribute paychecks. Try and find her on a Saturday night before 10pm when most players have lost out and may have a plane to catch or go out to eat themselves.
I will not report the large wage she is pulling in for all this hard work.
