I Don't Have A Porch EITHER

God bless this girl. It must be the thrill of her lifetime. I wouldn't for a minute diminish her accomplishment in any way.

I agree with you, Jay. I once beat someone in a pool tournament and I've never gotten over it. It will give me something to smile and think about when I'm old and sitting on the porch in my rocking chair. :)

( wait a minute, I AM old...... but I don't have a rocking chair )

Smorg,
I don't think smiling at Ray Charles' physical handicaps is very gentlemanly.

Congradulations to Marina , looking forward to seeing more of you in the future , keep up your great play.

she did?

I just want to post a big CONGRATULATIONS to our local girl Marina Linguerri. Marina is an 18 year old that has been playing at our pool hall for a few years now. She beat Jeanette Lee in her first ever match at the professional level 9-8!

Way to go Marina!

From the tournament's website......

Round 3
The biggest surprise of the tournament came out of round 3. In her first WPBA Classic event Marina Linguerri had to be excited to draw the famous Jeanette Lee as her first professional match. With little prospect for a win, Marina threw everything she had at Jeanette and just like the little train that could made it to the top of the hill. The match stood at hill-hill with Marina looking hard at a combo shot on the 9 using the two ball, she went for it and hit the shot perfectly. Not a bad way to start your first WPBA event.

Good for her! I'm really not trying to take anything away from your girl, though it'll sound like I am, but I beat Jeanette Lee 9 years ago in Rochester, NY when she was playing REALLY strong...It just seems that nowadays Jeanette has lost a step or two, though she still plays good. She is my favorite female pro despite her back problems and all the time she has taken away from the game. No, I'm not a pro and this was no tourney, but it was 3 games against ANY pro there if you paid to play them. I picked my hero of course. She only got 1 "kick" at a ball though, in the second game, at a 3 ball...Other than that, I broke and ran out on her! She did hit the 3 ball in the second game but failed to make it, but I could make it and ran that rack out too. OK, I'm done "patting myself on the back" lol Like I said, GOOD FOR HER!! Her confidence must be through the roof!!

Fantastic way to start a pool career!!!!!

 A big congratulations to the young and upcoming pool shooter!!!! :)

I think if she was reading this forum ...

Everybody chill. I think someone was making "a funny" and everybody took it to another level. Congrats on playing a great match, Marina.

She would not feel like she was being appreciated just as anyone else would not appreciate the attempts at humor !
Having said that I understand the spirit / mentality that it was stated in but sometimes some things should stay in the head and not in print!!!! ;)

JIGS,
I was wondering if you played at the women's pro event at the Vegas BCA tournament. SJM and I were sitting with Luc Salvas (who was sweating the match)? He spoke very highly of your game. Good luck if that was you; and welcome to AZB.

Your point is well taken. Congratulations to Marina; that is QUITE an accomplishment on a tour where many players are intimidated to some degree by the more successful players.

I wish that were me playing at the BCA event.. unfortunatly I haven't played in a WPBA event YET, not even a qualifier. Hopefully next year though or maybe later this year. :)
I would say that Luc Salvas was speaking of Myriam Lafranchise who is also from Quebec. He was/is her coach, and she has a great game. :)

Good for her. Now's the time for her to bear down, so that this isn't the highlight of her pool career.

J,
Thanks for the correction; I do recognize the name now (though the spelling completely eludes me). Good luck with your game.

I started this thread to pay special attention to a wonderful girl's tremendous accomplishment. I would guess this was the best day of her whole life!

Marina, you have made all of us in Ottawa so proud of your hard work and dedication and of course to your most recent success. I can't wait to see your game continue to grow over the years to come. All the best. Can't wait to congratulate you in person!

Wait a darn minute.

I agree, just spending a few hours on this site will make you realize that there are lots of people on here that are fairly low class. Let me explain. First off I am not fond of some of the avatars demeaning women, and second I am sure as hell not as fond as some people bashing a talented young woman who could, as said before prob. kick your as s in a game of pool. No offence here people, but please.... get some class.
You mean, I am low class by being associated in print with McWhorter? I need to think all of this over. Maybe I need to go back to the poolroom to hang out with the upper crust of society.

For everyone out there that enjoys attacking a young girl who has been working 5 or 6 days a week to get her game up to the level it is and belittling her as you have because she isn't a Vegas Showgirl smarten the F&%k up! Since when has great pool been equated to looks? Sumo looking? You go tell Danny B a crass comment about size and see how that goes over! Or Alain Martel or Min. Fats! The pool world is full of a variety of sizes and shapes. For those of you who keep yourselves locked in a gym to look good think that every minute you are in there, someone else is out here playing away just waiting for a shot to smoke your a_s_s on a table!

I have been with this forum for only a short while and have seen some stupid comments about a variety of things...this one is right up there!

Everyone else that has an IQ over their shoe size will recognize and respect the hard work and dedication it takes just to get there. In the last year she also represented Canada at the World Juniors in Australia. It takes tons of dedication and family support to get there at such a young age. I am sure her family truly appreciates the manner in which you have chosen to appraise her talents.

Thanks on behalf of my friend Marina to all of you with genuine interest in the game that respect her by wishing her,as we all do here, the best in this her FIRST pro event and hope she continues to play her best to allow her to fully enjoy the experience of a lifetime.

The rest...go stare in the mirror at a moron!

tap, tap, tap! Congratulations Marina! You simply HAVE to bring your A game any time you play a pro...whether they are male or female...whether they are down the ladder, or at the top! Great play results in great results!
Players like Marina, Landon Shuffet, Austin Murphy and many others are the FUTURE of our sport!

Could you make that 2 years ? I'm not sure that I HAVE 5 years....
Doug
( not sure I have 2 years, either )

Congrats ...

what a way to start your first WPBA event! Especially against one of the top WPBA players.

Some of these guys on here ask about looks because they have dillusions of having them for a girlfriend or wife someday .... LOL ... go take your meds guys!!!

Although, many players that end up on TV matches over the years, male and female alike, will ,in some way, many times, pay more attention to their appearance, whether it is the clothes they wear, losing some weight, hairstyle, etc..

And anyone that has more than a nickel of common sense knows that class comes from within, not from outside, or whether you are rich or not. Principles is a good place to start when looking for class.
