Ramona opened an upscale room in down town Albuqueque around 20 days ago.It is on central Ave and 3rd street.I wish I were a journalist or a poet to describe this gorgeous place. At the entrance I was greeted by neatly dressed bouncer.Once I entered I felt that I was in a very expensive Italian restaraunt. At the counter a very neatly groomed young female checked me in along with the lady I was with . There is a lounge area with nice couches and chairs. There were several young male & female Servers dressed in clean well pressed white shirt tucked in dark colored pants with small apron around the waist.Tables were brand new Brunswick Gold crowns with Simonoes( spelling) cloth. There were 15 or 16 nine footers, 4 bar boxes, one American snooker table.Space between the tables is adequate but not lavish.Carpet was thick and soft with new Mexico`s earthtone colors.Mens restroom was nice with faded blck back ground and the countertop for the sink is more than 6 feet long and is in one of the NewMexico`s earthtone color.
This is a high dollar place.Service was excellent. When I returned to my hotel I felt bad for not tipping the waitresses well.I gave only 20% tip.For the service they provided me and my friend I should have paid 30% of the Bill.
Some of u might know a player from Argentina by name Eduwardo... he is the House Pro there.
If u are driving on the Nation`s highways like I do,u may stop in Albuquerque and take a peek at that place. From Interstate hwy 25 take central ave exit and go west towards down town ,after few traffic lights u see the room at 3rd street.
SJM you should consider going to USOpen in OCT so that u can visit this gorgeous room.

I wish all the success to Ramona for this venture.Cheers

Has the local paper stamped out the

"Pool rooms are no longer the dirty smoke-filled havens for neer-do-wells of your father's time. Todays pool rooms are just as likely to serve steak and lobster ,,, blah blah " article yet?

If not, she should just have the local paper crank it out.

Thought I already posted in this thread.

Vagabond, I'm already considering going to the Women's US Open in October. Perhaps a 50/50 shot.

I wish my friend Ramona the best of luck with her new room.

Yeah you did- Due to a glitch, there were two identical threads.

NoStroke, that is a good idea. This place sounds like a very upscale club. I am sure the local media will do a report on it soon.

I am always excited when someone tries to make a difference in the pool industry. This will definitely give people something to think about. Pool and pool hall can be marketed in a very high class fashion.

Well done.

Any picture by any chance?

Richard

Since I do not as a general rule read News papers I do not know whether they wrote about it or not.Between 3rd,4th and 5 th streets there were several night spots and on Fri & Sat that area rocks.

Because of an error on my side it got posted twice.I requested the administrator to delete one and keep the other. The one that was deleted had your response.

Good luck Ramona!

I'm sure a lot of work and dedication went into creating this room. My observation is that a well run poolroom/sports bar will always be a good business.

There are up and down cycles in the billiard industry, but good rooms always will do well. I have been involved as an owner or partner in four rooms over the years and every one succeeded financially.

There is room in any populated area to open one, granted the proper licenses and a decent rent (or purchase of property). People enjoy getting out and socializing with other people and a nice billiard room provides a good atmosphere for this.

Hey, and did I mention, they are fun to own. And hard work, as they are typically seven day a week businesses. Every time I close one, I say it is my last. But then I see a good building in a good area and I get the bug again.

I always thought that if the pool hall is run the way buisinesses are supposed to be run it is always a profitable buisiness. But some of the rooms were mismanaged and end up shutting them down.

Did you hear about the pool room owner who won a third of the weekly 10 million dollar lottery? The three guys turned up together to get their prize. They asked the first guy what he would do with the money... "I'll buy a new house, a new car and a yacht...".

They asked the second guy what he would do and he said... "I'll invest it in securities and live like a king for the rest of my life...".

Then they asked the pool room owner what he would do and he said... "I think I'll just keep on owning the poolroom until the money runs out."
