WPBA Tour

Does the WPBA still have a regular tour? If I recall correctly in the past they have always had 5-6 events throughout the course of the year and I am curious if they still do. And where can I find their tour schedule if they do indeed still have a regular tour?

I checked the WPBA website and all I could see was the event in early February in Michigan at the Soaring Eagle Resort.

That is all there is, the one event.

I'm just guessing it's a financial thing. They had sponsors that helped cover production costs of events that allowed them to be televised. The economy restricted much of that sponsorship and instead of changing the mod of operation, the WPBA tried to keep the ship afloat with the same model.

Basically, running a pro tour in pool has a negative expectation to borrow gambling terminology. It's the same problem why men don't have a tour. No money to be made by the promoters means no tour.

You have that right!

You sure have that right. I looked a promoting an event, not a tour. The costs are huge and you need a place for a week to a week and half that you have to rent and pay for. Then you have to advertise to a very wide area which is a lot of trouble to get in touch with the players via the bars they play in or the league systems they play for and you start seeing just how much of job it can become. I couldnt find a scenario that works out financially or even close. My latest idea was to create a pool of people all with a small amount of money in the event as shareholder who would promote within their areas but that too is over complication. A friend of mine told me several times:

There are easier ways to make money.

No one does pool for a living I dont think, how could they unless they are a league system? Very few have a winner.

Smart Ass :D

By the way, the semi and finals will begin live on ESPN3 on Sunday at 1PM eastern.

I was told by a very reliable source that the WPBA buckled after Simonis had to drop them as a sponsor because someone kept calling their customer service repeatedly and asking the same question over and over.

I think it is time to put all the eggs back in the same basket... doing tandem women's and men's events seems like a better draw for promoters... In the pre WPBA days that was how it seemed to work best.. As I don't see any knight in shining armor coming to the rescue of either group it's time to cast their lots in together.....

Ouschan has on Facebook that she is there. Not sure on the others making the trip over from the recent China 8 Ball event.

Theres not going to be a womens or mens pro tour in the U.S.
The "pros" (The ones that call themselves that) wnt everything for nothing. It's just impossible. The amateurs is where the money is to be made for any/all promoters
