WPBA West Cost Classic

No problem. The WPBA website updated it's brackets in what I'm hoping is a timely manner (not sure when the matches ended).

For those who follow the WPBA rankings, this appears to be the situation, as of eight players remaining in the event.

1) Shaw's defeat of Lee has ensured that Lee will lose the WPBA #3 ranking to Julie Kelly.

2) As a result of her outstanding tournament, Janet Atwell will finish this event ranked 29th or better.

3) Hofstatter will likely, but not definitely, come out of this event holding the #5 ranking. Vivian could possibly deny her in this regard, by winning the event while Hofstatter finished third.

4) Kelly Fisher can crack the top ten with either a first or second place finish.

5) Kim Shaw, absent from the Top 16 for a while, can regain a Top 16 ranking with a fourth place finish or better, but it would take back to back wins over Allison and Karen for Kim to accomplish this.

Now let's see how it all plays out. Still a lot of pool to be played, but Karen's loss to Vivian has set up a likely showdown between the top two for a spot in the TV round.

Wow, great event here in San Diego. Of the top seven ranked players, based on WPBA rankings prior to the start of this event, ONLY ONE OF THEM will reach TV.

Ummmm.....actually since Gerda is 8th and Vivian is 9th there is a chance that one will reach TV and could wind up with NONE in the finals.

Gerda and Viv play for the hot seat, so the winner will be in tomorrow's final.

Was referring to Allison and Karen (1st and 2nd),one goes down to the other and hopefully Melissa,Janet,Viv,Kelly or Gerda, whichever, puts the whammy on the other one.My vBucks are bet on the "somebody else" finisher :D .Sorry Grem...just don't think Kim can take Allison yet...but maybe.

Great guns Vivian!!!

Sensational win over Karen. Now another TV appearance awaits. :D

Viv's head must have been in the clouds after knocking Karen off. :p I believe she'd lost to her many times in a row. (BTW, can anyone tell me if there's a website that lists head-to-head records? Thanks.) :)

Also congrats to Janet Atwell who's one win away from a Top 4 placing. Terrific tourney! (sorry Melissa, but a good showing nonetheless) :)

Any news yet on the Fisher/Corr and Atwell/Fisher matches or will these be played Sunday night? :o

K. Fisher def. Atwell 9-5
Corr def. A. Fisher 9-5

According to AZ Billiards, Melissa had an 8-0 lead over Janet before losing 9-8. Hopefully, Melissa will be able to rebound from that. Still, a great tournament for both of those ladies.

I just want to thank AZ for the detailed reports, it seems since the WPBA started posting bracketts they stopped reporting much on these events. Reading the highlights of some of the matches is much more interesting than a brackett or a bunch of stats. I hope they do this for every torunament..esp since the WPBA is so slow in updating (though I think this is because poor KO is doing it all alone?)

GO GERDA!!!

omg poor Meilissa :( :(

Well, Kelly is definitely showing some consistentcy here with top 6 finishes in six of the first 7 tournaments she played in. Got my fingers crossed that this will be the one. It's nice to see Gerda back in form. Maybe hanging out with Jean Balukas has been rubbing off on her.

It's also nice to see that the general level of play has gone up and a lot of new players seem to be making some moves to shake up the rankings.

Thanks for all the updates.

John

Gerda would be a great win for this. She's one of the first pro's I ever saw a tv match of.
There have been some great match-up this tournament, that I haven't seen in a while, at the point in the tournaments they were.

I'm so proud of Melissa for getting as far as she did, it was nice to see her name ride across the brackets! Rock on.

I don't think I could be dissappointed with anyone who has the chance to win this tournament. I appreciate all of their game.

It sure is impressive, OPC, though it's only five of seven (33rd at WPBA Canada and 17th at WPBA Florida).

I just looked at the brackets and Kelly Fisher has eliminated Karen Corr. As I've said to you before, my friend, a WPBA pro defines herself through her play on WPBA Sundays, so this could well prove a defining moment for Kelly. Perhaps today is the day she wins her first title, perhaps it isn't. We'll know soon.

But a win over Corr on a WPBA Sunday serves notice that this rising star has taken another important step up the ladder of success as a pro.

By the way, can't wait to meet you at the BCA Open. I'm arriving on the evening of Tuesday 5/17. Will PM you when the date gets close.
