WPBA worst dressed list

I personally think the WPBA is very professional run and the players are looking very professional in general.

Some girls are just more casual than others, and that is the way people are.

In general, I find the WPBA players much better dressed than the Men in major Men's tournaments.

If professionals pool players want to increase audience interest for these tournaments, televised or not, it is in their own interest to dress at least better than the average bar player.
I don't think the way they dress, within reason, makes a difference.

I remember a time when players were required to wear jackets while playing in a lot of tournaments. Tuxedos were required in some of the major tournaments. It didn't seem to matter then and I don't think it will matter now.

What's the difference between then and now?

Actually, I wasn't really talking about being expensively, or uncomfortably dressed, ie tuxedos, jackets.

I think the pro golf comparison made earlier is the perfect example.

Refering to the Tuxedos, Late Minnesota Fats was quoted to have said that ``it is like spreading icing on a hot dog``:D

However, the current fashion might not be what you think it is. I've seen the way Monica Webb dresses both down and up and she's usually on par for the current younger woman casual fashion.

Who knows... maybe that style of dress might encourage some young woman to play more pool because she realizes not all women pool players play pool in high heels and skin tight outfits.

Different styles for different people.
Wow. I don't normally do this, but... Great Post!

There are two classes of players---Some 1st class---Some 2nd class.

How do YOU bring the game to a higher level???

I attended the Great Lakes tournament Saturday night and was treated to some world class 9-ball. Congradulations Alican. What I didn't see was proper dress for professional athletes. To name a few (there were others) Helena Thornfeldt wore a shirt that looked like it came from a second hand store. Laura Smith wore well I'm not sure what look she was going for. Monica Werbb played in what looked like wrinkled pajamas. Doesn't the WPBA have a dress code or is it just ignored. If you work in the entertainment industry, like these women do, looks do count. People won't be attracted to pool when some of the upper classwomen show up looking like bums. JMHO.
I couldn't agree more! Even with all of the things the women are doing to advance the game of pool, they need to continue to strive for class. Part of that effort includes dressing the part.

Who says that you have to be uncomfortable to be dressed nicely? There is a middle ground you know. While I do not believe the women should be made to wear sexy clothes unless they are so inclined to, they, as well as the men, should have some sense of celebrity if they call themselves professionals. It's a matter of pride. It comes with the territory if we are going to ever attract the sponsors that pay the big bucks.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there. If this were a televised event, I can understand requiring some sort of dress code but, aside from that, if I were in a tournament that required me to be in a pool hall, on my feet, for several hours a day for at least two days, I would want to be as comfortable as possible.

And I have to disagree with you on that point.

A dress code is a dress code!

I play in the lowest league in Germany and the rules mandate black trousers, black shoes (no logos, so you basically end up in business shoes) and a poloshirt with the club sign on it. That goes for me in the lowest league as well as for Thorsten Hohmann in the premiership!
No matter if it's a match day lasting 3 hours or the league players championship with 100+ players double k.o. on 10-15 tables that takes 10 hours

If you see Pool as a sport everyone has to follow certain rules and the dress code is an essential part of getting rid of the "a sport played in bars" prejudice!

all the hot players should have to wear bikinnis that would be sweet oh and keep the one foot on the table rule, but throw out the bridge Lee VS. Baretta a major beer sponsor would jump on that in a second

Remember how Jackie Gleason dressed when he portrayed Minnesota Fats in the movie "The Hustler"? I'm sure he felt "comfortable" beating Fast Eddie out of $20k! The top players know they are icons, and dress to portray good taste along with their skill. Look at Allison and Gerda.

Grow up!
um...
That was a movie. Fiction.
