I read some news that the 2007 WPC event will be moved from the PICC to the Araneta Coliseum. oh Christ ! :o anyway, for those who are going there to see the event, be extremely alert and be careful. you don't wanna lose your passport and pocket money while you're there! better tag along a companion to usher you safely. ;)
 
This appears to be correct. It is not necessarily a less safe area than the PICC. Anywhere in Manila you must be careful at night. That is like any US city in this respect. I would expect a large security contingent around the Araneta during the WPC.

This is the same arena where Ali fought Foreman many years ago. It has been updated and renovated. They use it for basketball games and other sports as well.

I think the main reason is that they can get more seating in here, than at the PICC. There was lack of good seating at the PICC, and the upstairs six tables were poorly situated for spectators.

Looks like they are expecting a big crowd. Sounds like a good choice to me. I'll find out more soon.

Actually it's a nicer venue, compared to the PICC, in terms of accessibility being in the heart of a commercial. Secondy, it has a higher seating capacity. Third, it's adjacent to a brand spankin' new mall where the security force even has a K-9 unit.

Being careful with ones self and personnal belongings is a must nowadays no matter where you are. I'm sure that security issues for the event and participants has been discussed with the Mayor's Office.

oh, I thought there is no better venue for WPC in Manila than PICC! Which part of the city is that other arena located? Last year I enjoyed staying just between One-Side and Rack'n'Roll, and PICC was smth like 5 minutes to drive :) Is Araneta much farther from that part?
 
Jay, it was venue for the "Thrilla in Manila" between Ali and Joe Frazier. Araneta Coliseum is located in Quezon City, which is north of Manila. About 20 to 40 minutes ride from Makati and Manila, depends on your mode of transportation and traffic.

It sure does depend on the traffic... We were supposed to have dinner with the Bugsy Promotion people one of the last nights before we went back to Norway, and we spent more than 2 hours in taxi to get to Quezon City.... (Lived next to One Side. Other days it took like 20-30 minutes.)
