Folks I heard it from Anthony and Chuck on TV (ongoing Guinness 9-ball Guangzhou Leg) that they mentioned WPC will be in Jan '09. No mention of a location though.

Anyone knows where it is going to happen?

Jay has stated the RUMOR is either the Phillipines or Singapore.

Doubt I'll be able to go if it's in January (that's a busy month for me over in Thailand)- I was all set to head over in November.

i am from the Philippines and i love my country and of course our great players. BUT personally, i hope they bring back WPC back to Cardiff - where it belongs. :)

you dint go to WTB, now you dont want WPC in PI or SG?

This situation regarding the world 9 ball championship is absolutely ridiculous and quite frankly reya, matchroom and the wpa need to get their finger out and tell us and the players whats happening one way or the other with the tournament, but what gets me though is it is the WPA World pool championship so why the hell can they not just put the event on as normal I mean they are the world governing body after all.

Lets face it its not as if the worlds top players wouldn't show up after all it is the showpeice event of the pool year.

Quite frankly I beleive that the WPA does not reya or puyat sports, they got on fine from 99 to 2003 when the tournament was in its spiritual home of Cardiff.

So come Matchroom and WPA let us know what's happening with the tournament.

Bump for any updates.

I heard rumor Matchroom was looking to get out-sell or pass their rights back to the WPA- No idea why. It SEEMED they had great success with it.

At any rate if we dont hear something this month, i believe it's dead for 2009.

As far as I'm concerned, Cardiff is where the WPC SHOULD be held, all this malarky of it being in Manilla, Indonesia, etc, is fine cool, but who's going to keep putting up $Millions to fund it every year in these locations?, it sure as hell ain't going to be and never should have to be the players.

I think that the whole global economy may be having a large effect though on the hold up on organizing the event, which really sucks.

If it goes to Cardiff, I am willing to sponsor it to the tune of $1.5K in turn for the organizer rate on a hotel room.

As far as I know, they are still working with the World Championship for 2009.

The economical situation has not made it easier, though.

I was told that Cardiff is not an option.

Matchroom is?

F*CK!! (on no Cardiff)

I would think if it went to Cardiff and they got Steve Davis, Ronnie O and Darren in some TV matches, they are home free. The numbers must be tougher than i thought.

I guess they are trying to find someone to foot the whole bill up front.

Im getting old-Dont have too many long trips left in me. Sux!

ps- I cant believe we poisoned the whole world with our Toxic Mortgages and no one seems that mad at us for it.

How do you were not mad at you for it? ;-)

On the topic of the worlds, here is my 2c.

im not sure what its like in america or other countries to qualify for the worlds, but here in australia/oceania, we have 4 spots to the worlds every year, and they are highly saught after. the winner of the oceania, winner of australian nationals get a spot each, and the 2 highest ranked playrs on our ranking list get a spot also. now australia is around the same size as america, and we have to travel to other states to play in these events, and if we are serious travel also to new zealand to play in all events and ensure a high ranking to try and get one of these spots, i would estimate that about 20 players probably spend about 5-10k per year travelling to these events, and that doesnt include time of work, practise etc etc., plus the many that spend less but still invest alot of money and time.

now after doing all of this and obtaining one of these spots, the tournament is delayed in sounding like a possibility of not goign ahead.

to me, this seems utterly unnacceptable, think of the poor sod that has spent all this money, maybe even changed is whole life structure to put in the practise to ensure he got one of these spots, only to have it all for nothing.

I rekon the players would have a case against matchroom for damages if the event doesnt go ahead.

cosider the quantity of players that have put this effor it to get the 90 od qualifying spots avalable around the world, at least 10 to 1 900 x 2k is 1.8 million to start.

look at snooker, they lost their major sponsor just prior to this years world championships, they didnt postpone the event, they proceeded as planned with the intention of forking the bill themselves until another sponsor was found, fortunately betfred came to the party at the 11th hour, but none the less the show went on, cos like 9 ball, many players have gone to alot of effort to qualify for the right to playin the event.

Im not sure how matchroom can understand what the event means to the players if they can even consider the actions they have taken so far, let alone carry it out, and potentially make it worse by cancelling the event.

ahh thats better :-), iterested to hear other peoples thoughts on this.
sb..

I just looked at the WPC 9 ball page on wikipedia.org , and it says "The World Nine-ball Championship for 2008 will begin October 31, 2009, with the final played on November 8. The locations for each championship are yet to be announced."

Doesn't list a source for the information, I was wondering if anyone could clarify on the validity of this. It is wikipedia after all.
