WPS brackets.............???

Something going on here. To have a tournament of this caliber and not have the best players from the host country makes no sense.

Some kind of hard feelings against Appleton maybe? Those in your face celebrations from past mosconi cups? This is strange for sure

Wow, only 32 players. Something's not right here. Wondering if it could be small money and big expenses.

I may have nailed it here. $750 entry fee, travel to and from New York, hotel room and food. This could easily be a $2,000-2,500 trip! Maybe if you finish third you will break even.

Probably right Jay. Pretty serious nut to have to fade. Gonna be some killer matches anyway. Filler-Shaw(2pm E.) could be nuts.

I remember something about Appleton telling players that signed up and didn't show they stilled owed a huge entry fee plus penalty, and he would report them to WPA or something stupid.

Hard to believe he can't get more players.

Also I bet some has to do with the fact Appleton seems to be able to tamper with the Mosconi Cup. Also he does not support the US tournaments.

I'd imagine some people just don't care about that tour. Also it's 8 ball

If it was in the midwest where things are affordable then maybe.

This is all IMO...

This event is NINE-BALL. If they had one of these in KansasCity(or anywhere besides back east) they might fill it.

My fault. They must have raised it when they saw the low turnout. A couple of months ago it was listed as $150.

No. The $150 entry fee is for the second-chance event -- for players who do not make it to the final 16 in the main event.

Entry fees for the main event are stated as follows:

"Entry $650 ($150 goes towards Grand Final)
Top 16 $750, Bye to round 3 ($250 goes towards Grand Final)
$50 ($75 for top 16) late fees applicable after April 8th."

Edit -- But from looking at the flowchart, it looks like that "bye to round 3" part did not happen, so maybe they changed the entry-fee structure, too.

You're absolutely right. Got the two confused. Knew I saw $150 somewhere.

I'm not watching, but honestly, I'm surprised tournament organizers keep doing these huge events in NYC. There are plenty of big rooms with professional well kept tables readily available in New Jersey and The Spot in Nanuet has about 15 Pro AM Diamonds that are always well kept. SO considering all the costs associated for these players to go to NYC, why even bother holding events there.

The could always *stay* in Jersey but with the tunnel and/or bridge fees, they might wanna just stay in the city. Steinway is in Queens, though, so it's not quite as bad as Manhattan would be. I know when ABC was open on Amsterdam and they had tourneys, the players were BRUTALIZED by the costs.
