Once you get a leather wrap installed on a cue, can you go back to a linen wrap? If I understand correctly, the channel to install a leather wrap is deeper than that for linen. Thanks for your replies. Also, has anyone ever tried to wrap linen over leather? If the leather were sanded down a bit, I think it might have an interesting "feel". Just a thought as I was typing this post.

No, typically the valley for the leather wrap is deeper than that of a linen wrap.

Because of the way its done, stack leather can be put in place of linen without cutting the groove any deeper, which should allow going back to linen if you wanted. I had a whole explanation from Ilya as he did one for me. Ilya is the guy who does the wraps, for Tiger.

The leather I use is the same thickness as linen. Good cuemakers/repairmen will use this type of leather. In fact, several AZ members sell such leather. I think Petree had some posted a couple of weeks back. Good looking stuff.

Cuemakers can use a lightweight bondo to build the wrap channel up but only a little. Lightweight bondo is still heavier than wood.

Any Cue repairman can do this!! Most use epoxy to build up the area for the wrap. I do this for my customers, I charge $40 for a re-wrap from linen to linen, and $50 if I am going from leather to linen.

The repair is very durable, and undetectable when completed.

Thanks. I would think that the buildup material would need to be so thin that it would crack into pieces.

most any maker can. there are a few ways but some use "finish" to build the area up some tape maybe a combination of both ect..... use your imagination. some keep the way they do it to themselves. allot of makers do it in different ways all with a similar result. all you have to do is call some and ask and then pay $. as to whom i know that can do this, josey, schon (did 2 cues for me in the early 90's), joe gold, bludworth ect... i assume just about any maker if they want to.

Funny you asked...Don Broos our local cue doctor expert in Ontario Canada have done this to my Miranda cue and it feel amazing. It's like have the best of both world. The wrap feel tight with a cushiony feel. To my knowledge, he has already done 2 like this and both turn out amazing. I was wondering how many cuemakers actually have done this?

Don basically just turn down the existing leather wrap and installed the linen over top to make it flush with the cue. He has the best wrap work in Canada for sure.
