Well thanks to one of my clumsy friends my cue needs a refinish so i thought while its away i'll get a leather wrap installed and shafts cleaned and new tips/ferrulls installed. I've been thinking of going for smooth black leather but i thougth after time it might become sort of clamy so can anyone suggest a alternative that would look good on my cue (click the link in my sig for pics).

Also who would be the best person to do the work?? I wouldn't mind a pretty quick turn around as whilst my cues away i'm stuck playing with a Meucci, lol.

Smooth black would look fine and it is holding up well on my Gilbert J/B! I also like the feel of the textured/printed leathers as well. I have several other cues that are real lizard and I think the cue would look good with a lizard or lizard print leather wrap as well.

As far as the person to do it, if you're not going to send it back to the maker I've heard that Scott at Proficient does awesome leather work as well as our own Mike Webb!

Mike Webb. Great prices, relatively fast turn around time and a good guy. Mike will take care of you at a more than fair price.

My .02 cents

After seeing the cue, I would say a black textured lizard wrap would look best on it. The textured would give it a little classy look more than smooth.

Deep-- A smooth black leather wrap would look great on that cue. You're in the UK? If shipping is not a problem, Scott Sherbine at Proficient Billiards does great work at very fair prices. They are located in Pennsylvania.

Hope I inserted the link right....

fancy embossed or smooth glove leather goes nicely. it's your choice. my choice would be smooth, since it would match the simplicity of you cue......fancy embossed might be overdoing it, but i don't really thinkit matters.

if you're worrying about sweat on the leather,,,,,wipe it down often.

don't choose anything that will recut into the grip because you will be compromising the original template of the cue.

btw,,,mike webb is excellent

I have Tiger smooth black stack wrap. It really changes the way the cue feels - I like it a lot. It's like the difference between wrapless and smooth leather.

Hey chris,

Any chance you could post an upclose pic or two of your wrap. I've heard of them before but have never seen one. Thanks.

I am sold on these wraps. I had Tiger install it and had a Sniper tip put on at the same time. Their guy does a perfect job getting it level with the cue. They cleaned up my cue and it was a 100% playing improvement over the previous lizard wrap. The stack has some tack to it. It's smooth and hard. The best I can describe it is like playing with a wrapless cue but with the warmer feel of leather (not cold and glassy). It will wear dull over time but can be buffed back to new.

Here's the one on my cue:

Thanks for all the replies, i appreciate it guys. :)

I think i'll be sending scott a proficient a email and seeing how much it will cost in total. I've also read that sometimes when having cue refinished that the signature is removed, is that true???

Thanks guys.

Is humidity an issue where your located. Some wraps can gain up to a half an oz. in extreme conditions. If it is think about CORK. It's bouyant and will not retain moisture. Dennis SEARING applied a flawless cork wrap on a SW for me.:)

Stacked Leather

Most of my cues have wood grips but I do have one Jacoby with a stacked leather grip. Just enough tack to it without being sticky. Its a good alternative I think. Just my amateur opinion. :)
