WTB Scruggs Bushka Tribute Cue

Thanks to all who tried to help.....and I want to apologize to any who've tried to help me only to have me decline the cue because it isn't a Bushka Tribute cue. Surpisingly, some folks have seemingly gotten annoyed with me and tried convincing me the cue in question is really a Bushka Tribute cue when it isn't. The Bushka Tribute cue design by Scruggs, and most other reknown cue makers, all pretty much emulate each other almost exactly. Sometimes a cue maker might deviate with some additional rings or dots but pretty much all of the cues resemble each other very closely.

Now I'm not here to criticize others' cues and in retrospect I now realize some of my comments probably incorrectly inferred that to some readers. But please don't misjudge, or criticize me, because I know what I'm looking for and I have a pretty good idea what the cue should cost. I've already encountered 2 Scruggs Bushka Tribute cues and they have a distinct look all their own. For those who are unfamiliar, check out the website www.ilovecues.com and see firsthand some of the best Bushka Tribute design by Scruggs....then go back and compare the design with these other cues....the designs are not the same but sometimes they can be close....what's the saying...close only really counts when it comes to horseshoes & hand grenades. I don't want close...if I did, I wouldn't still be posting messages on he forum asking for help.

There will be countless numbers of cues by Scruggs and others that admittedly are "Bushka" designs but right now I'm not willing to settle and there's a dozen Scruggs cues right now that have Bushka Designs but none are legitimately a Bushka Tribute cue. Someone might own a souped up, gorgeous old mustang with air dam & scoops but that doesn't make is a real Shelby Cobra Mustang....the car is still a nice Ford but it just isn't a Shelby.

So thanks for all your help to everyone but please don't consider me as being unreasonable or not knowing what I'm talking about. If you don't want to help, fine....but don't try convincing me that the cue in question is something it isn't. I just want to find an original Tim Scruggs Bushka Tribute cue, When I give up my search, I'll settle for one of these other cues that others mistakenly have considered to be a genuine Bushka Tribute cue. But until then, I am going to continue searching for the real thing....NUF SED!

Is a new Scruggs "Bushka" tribute cue currently available for sale on the open market?

I Reallt Don't Know But Have Doubts...

Shakey,

Based upon what several cue dealers have told me, whom also happen to be members of AZ forum, they haven't seen a original Scruggs Bushka Tribute cue in a couple of years. They think with such a depressed cue market, why would any owner of such a cue be inclined to sell now unless the sale was in some way emergency related.

I've been watching e-Bay for the past five years and the cue has never appeared there that I know of. Can't find any listings for sale anywhere on the Internet relying upon several different search engines, multiple heading searches and I've also posted WTB messages on other forum websites. And as you can see, no real luck yet on the AZ forum except that two individuals with Bushka Tribute cues did contact me in the last 3 weeks so my persistency, despite the ridicules from other Azers, has produced some results. Just FYI....One seller wanted a lot of money for his cue which was way beyond my budget and the other owner was indecisive about selling and decided to keep the cue because he now better appreciates how seemingly scarce genuine Scruggs Bushka Tribute cue cues appear to be.

So That's everything I've done and know about the availability of this specific cue. Based upon my experience to date, I'm inclined to think this specific Scruggs cue is generally not available on the open market but others on the forum may disagree with my assessment.

Bava,
Did you try contacting Tim Scruggs personally? (I'm not sure if he's still alive). Maybe he or someone in his family has records of who bought his cues. I recently purchased a Bushka Tribute cue from Richard Black. It's so beautiful that I won't play with it...I just get it out and admire it once in a while. Not sure why your interest in Scruggs is so great but that's what makes cue collecting so much fun. Personally, I went with the Richard Black cue because he is in the Hall of Fame already. Plus, I love the cue. Good luck with your search. An old timer once gave me some good advice. He said that if at first you don't succeed then the hell with it...LOL

Did You Happen To Buy Floppybear's cue?

Shakey,

Since the unforunate passing of Mike, who I'm told was Tim's right hand guy making ccues under his own name, his shop has been closed. Sent numerous e-mails that went unaswered and the phone doesn't get answered. From everything I've read, Tim is finished with making cues and his whereabouts is not known except to perhaps his family, close friends, or other cue makers he knows. Forum readers have ben posting remarks about his disappearance from the cue scene for quite awhile.

Did you happen to get your Richard Black Bushka from Floppybear on AZ. I almost bought his cue on 4th of July weekend when he was headed to LV and going to pass thru Fresno. It was a December 6, 2000 signed & dated RB Bushka Tribute (The real thing with the proper Bushka Tribute design)....The cue was beautiful and came with 3 shafts and it was absolutely stunning....we had a deal to but the cue but my daughter needed $2k unexpectedly for a auto transmission problem and voila...a big chunk of my cue fund had to get used and I asked for an additional week until I get paid. I just never use a credit card to buy any pool merchandise because my financial self control would be lost....I'd buy a lot more and probably pay more too. BUt there was an identical back-up offer from another buyre so Bryce understandably took the other offer.

Regardless, Richard Black makes some of the best cues and his Bushka Tribute cue is on a par with any I've ever seen...even Scruggs....except for maybe the cues on Lucky's webiste....those freakin' Scruggs cues set the bar height for Bushka Tribute cues. I hope you got the cue from Bryce because that one was absolutely gorgeous....I was in the process of buying it but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Congrats on owning a great cue by a reknown cue maker....I envy you and of curse, curse that damn car.

tim is alive and kicking and also in the HALL OF FAME.......but your right buy what you like.....tim has retired and is enjoying the spoils of his work i am sure....

Let's not start any rumors about Tim. He is alive and kicking. He stopped by Bob Frey shop couple weeks ago when I was there and boy, did he have some stories to tell. Jeff, the scruggs I have posted has your name written all over it. You need to buy it before it too late.

From The Bushka Tribute Village Idiot

Gene,

I think you might have intended you earlier posting comment for me.......the Bushka Guy......sent you a PM.

Answered Your PM

GK....I just answered your PM....hope to talk with you later today or over the weekend.

i know i have a lot into my scruggs bushka, but for the most part the extra money is because it was just refinished by Dennis Searing not even 2 months ago and one shaft has about an hour of play on it and the other untouched. the cue is in literally absolutely perfect condition through and through. the shafts are also 30" instead of 29" which i think makes the cue play a little different and the opposite of my liking. Ive recently found a Nitti that i want extremely bad and the price is a little steep just north of 2k but id be willing to let my scruggs go for 1,500 to cover the extra i need for the nitti. Just so you know Dennis Searing appraised this cue at 1800 and honestly thats why that was the first number i was asking, but in this economy youre right. Cues arent selling at full price. If this sounds a little better for you id be willing to make a deal asap. Im actually gonna repost the cue later today with the 1500 price tag but i cant go a penny less. It just would be to much of a loss for me id rather keep it.

Your Scruggs Is Worth More Than You're Asking For

Your Scruggs cue is definitely one of the more appealing Scruggs cues on AZ or anywhere else for that matter. And at this price, your cue shouldn't really should not greet another sunrise before it's sold.

Time is Running Out

The Bushka Tribute cue outlook remains bleak...am starting to also search for four prong cues made by Richard Black, Tim Scruggs, Bill Stroud, James White, Paul Mottey, Dennis Searing, Ariel Carmeli....but still a Bushka or Szambo design....not a fan of leather wraps....prefer Irish Linen....shaft size preference is 12.75 -13mm & ivory ferrules (at least one "straight" original shaft).....not interested in any cues that have shaft sizes >12.5mm.....will consider stainless steel or ivory jointed cues.

There are several cues on AZ that meet the above requirements but the prices tend to be in the $3k range which is more than I'm prepared to spend for a cue to substitute for the original Scruggs Bushka Tribute cue I've been such a pest about trying to locate. Thanks again for all the prior help looking for this cue

A Really Good Question

I held a Bushka Tribute in my hands in 20001 when I was in Las Vegas and didn't get a chance to try it. The cue was magnificent looking and the balance seemed ideal. I probably would settle for another esteemed cue maker's Bushka Tribute. But the few I've seen tended to be slightly heavier than the Scruggs vesrion but of course, any new cue can be made to a buyer's specs.

The closest cue that I passed on, and have regrets about, was the James White Bushka Tribute I mentioned. The Richard Black one I didn't purchase was a little heavier than the James White cue but I am open to Bushka Tribute cues by any of the cue makers I mentioned. Finding a Tim Scruggs version has become an exercise in sheer frustration and I think their value will hold up better over the next twenty years because he apparently didn't make that many.

But at this point, I'm willing to buy another Joss West but this time I think I'd look for a radial pin, ivory joint cue instead of another s/s joint. But
any of the cue makers I mentioned in my post that has a sharp looking Bushka Or Szambo design, I'd consider them. Bill Stoud is probably my favorite cue maker and his early work is the best as far as I'm concerned. Currently discussing a Joss West cue right now with a seller but if that Bushka comes along, I'm down for it.
