So, I love the feel of a sounthwest, but I can't afford one. I've heard that Omens have the same joint, but I've never hit one. Looks are secondary I'd prefer just a plain jane.
I would also like to get rid of my P2. So, if anyone has any information for me on my new cue purchase, It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Cory

There is a great buy on a 4 point Omen here. You cant go wrong in my opinion as they play great and priced reasonable. His break jumps play as well as his playing cues in my opinion. I have both and love them. If you want pics send me your email and I will send you some pics. I would also just call Pete and see what he will make a plain one for. His wait is nothing compared to other cue makers. Good luck.

Matty here on AZ has some really nice southwest design cue with old growth shaft that should play solid.

Regards,
Duc.

Omen's are great cues but play nothing like a SW. Omen shaft taper is not like SW. If you like the SW standard shaft taper, then you should probably go to a cuemaker that will make you a cue that duplicates that shaft taper. That's your best chance at getting a cue that will play like a SW. IMO

I have a stunning '07 Jeff Olney 6 pt cue that plays very much like a SW with two shafts. One shaft is a stiff hitting 13mm shaft with a LBM ferrule(Moori medium tip). The cue's points are 3 long cocobolo and 3 short ebony into a bem forend. 3/8 X 10 flat nosed brass pin, 19 oz and the shafts are both 4 oz (one with the ivory ferrule @ 12.75mm is 3.9 Kamui tip). Cue has a little bluing on one shaft. The other has been test hit only. No dings, dents, scratches at all. Perfect seamless rust colored Teju Lizard wrap. I will sell on a total buyer satisfaction guaranteed basis. $900 firm and you should know that Olney has a 3-4 year wait for a cue. Only reason I'll sell is because I just took delivery the another Olney in the pics, made to my specs 1/2 oz heavier and 1/2" longer. The cue for sale is a total monster player and a beauty too. Send me your Email for more pics if you need them...Tom

It's the one with the rust colored wrap and the Birds Eye forend.

I think you should look at the Howard on the new2youcues.com site. I've had SW and prefer the Howard(personal preference). I very much respect Salamander's opinion but i think the Omen I had played very similar to my Southwest. The joint is a hair thicker on the Omen which I think makes the shaft taper seem more different than it really is. all IMHO of coarse.
Good luck, BTW that Olney is also a nice playing cue.

I don't know a thing about Howards. Now you got me runnin' to see that cue Jeff :)).

That Olney is a monster though, and anyone needing a 19 oz 6 pt cue would be sooooooo lucky to get it. It's perfect too, and that's why I'll guarantee it...Tom

Ok, I saw it.

Tom,
For somewhere around a 1/3 to half the price of a SW,with a "send it back if you don't like it-gaurantee", That Olney is as good as it gets. Jeff will get his due someday, in the mean time, they are a great value.
thanks-jeff

well said.imo,of all the choices mentioned the Rick Howard will be the closest to a SW.the Omen and Olney aren't quite as stiff, but are both nice cues.
