Not to mention the thousands on dollars in supplies and the endless years of seasoning your lumber..

trent, this is what i wanted to do also, so i bought a cheap lathe.
1st shaft i put in the lathe wobbled so much i could not even polish it, much less do and repair work.
that same day i gave that lathe away and called chris hightower, 2 months later i had a lathe that was designed to build cues.
i have bought another since then, both deluxes. imo its the only way to go. chris makes a great product for the money and he is always ready to help with supplies, any extry parts.

i just dont know if the deluxe is worth twice the cost of the mid size i mean besides heavier duty parts and being able to taper shafts is it really twice the lathe??? i only ask this becasue thats about all my budget and that means i cant buy wood, glue, tips ex.

i can spend right around 2500 today does anyone out there have anything but thats shooting the whole load there. i wanted to find a decent lathe between 1000 and 1500 and be able to buy alot of material.


im kinda tworn.:confused:
 
In this crazy world we live in you can buy a larger lathe than what you need for alot less than a cue lathe. I just bought a 78" lathe last week for $1,200 and have been turning shafts on it all day today. Here is some opions on larger lathes.

thanks i thought about that aswell but i dont have a huge amount of room.
most of this will be in the basement. although i do have a barn and could put anything i want in there but i dont have heat out there and it gets cold here in ohio

Unless you live alone, the barn may be a better location for a cue shop. The sound of a router and a dust collector is very loud. Dust and fumes from sanding and finishing will be bad for the heath of your heat and A/C system too!

no i have a wife and 3 kids so its a full house, ill prolly move to the barn for space purposes. does the tempeture out side effect wood ?? like if i have some hanging to dry out and it gets frozen could this hurt it in the long run??

Good question to ask in the cuemakers section. I store mine in a insulated room in my insulated shop. It's not climate controled but still protected form exstream tempature changes.
