I’m looking to buy a good starter lathe. It will be strictly for tip replacement and shaft cleaning. What would you recommend?

I also thought that I only wanted to do tips and clean shafts when I first started. I would suggest going ahead and getting something like the Mid Size Cue Smith with large spindle bore so you can do all the basic repair work.
I too wanted to just replace tips and clean my cues. Glad I listened to Chris. I just replaced a tenon, ferrule and tip on another break cue (thought it was just a cracked ferrule). With just one other repairman anywhere nearby, I’m glad I bought the Mid Size Cue Smith.
