man i just cant believe our team today. we playing in the 8 ball cities.

the other team throws a 5 and i put myself up , i am a 5 also. i get shut out 4-0 !. i just cant believe it. i did not play bad but that guy did not miss shit ! i have won a few against 6s and 7s, got to the hill and lost, even had a few where i only won 1 or 2. but i have never been shut out, least of all by a player the same level.

next match we throw out a 4. they throw out another 5. their 5 wins 4-0 ! i am thinking shit, they got some strong ass 5s !

next match they throw out a 6, we counter with our 6. the match goes hill - hill. our 6 breaks and scratches. their 6 runs the table. it was a great match and either one could have won or lost on 1 bad leave.

if our 6 had won i dont think our remaining 4 or 3 had a chance against their remaining 4s and 3s . our 4 is just an average 4 and our 3 is probably the worst 3 in the league. i have a real good shooting 4 but he could not get off work. hopefully he will be able to make it in time for our next match in a couple of hours.

not to good of a start for us today. maybe we can get it together and place well in this thing.

looking forward to the 9 ball cities next week. most of us seem to do better at 9 than 8 ball.we won the tri cup 3 sessions ago and placed 2nd the last 2 sessions. we were in last place in 8 ball last session and only qualified for the 8 ball cities by doing well in the last chance qualifier.

i am gonna practice some here at the house before going back for our next match. hope i get my act together:smile:

I wouldn't do any work before the next match. Relax and bang some balls around just to build confidence maybe but no real work. I am not a fan of last minute cramming for an exam or practice for a match. Loosen up and be ready to romp. Might work on your mental game a bit, know you are heading back to kick ass and take names!

Assuming that the 0-4 losses did not result from consecutive break and runs by your opponent you and your player had a chance to shoot.


Ask yourselves, Why did you loose each of those games? Did you scratch or otherwise foul giving up ball in hand?

Did you miss an easy shot? Fail to play a good safe? Analyze each game and see where you gave each game away.

Sometimes the difference between winning and losing is attitude. Some come to play, others come to win. That's a big difference in mindset in my book.

Good luck in your next match and show up with that winning attitude and focus.

yo chico! keep your head up. i had 3 teams in the cities here in atlanta. two 9 ball and one 8 ball. i had been playing great 8 ball lately and sucking in 9.
my 8 ball team played 1st on friday night. lost the first 2 matches, they put me up blind in the 3rd. other team throws a 3 (i'm a 6) i win the first, screw up and lose the second so she's on the hill. what does she do - breaks the 8 in on complete fluke. nothin you can do about it.
as bad as i have been playing 9 ball i wound up playing 4 matches between saturday and sunday and won them all (and got raised to a 7, in 9 ball only, in the process).
just relax and let it happen. don't stress over anything and play your game. handle your business son. you have won, you will win. just keep saying it over and over. visualization is no joke. see yourself playing well in your mind. the mental side of the game needs to be worked on too.

Unfortunately it will only get worse as you get farther.

Most of the teams that consistantly get that far and beyond know EXACTLY how to do it. Im not talking about match up strategy either.

Not that on occasion a wild card team won't make it but they are truly a wild card. It's one of the reasons I stopped playing most league. As 'glamorous' as a coach plane ticket and stay at a mediocro hotel in Vegas is....I got tired of trading in my conscience on it. Hard to believe as it may be. ;)

Just remember that your there for fun and try and have that.
 
That kinda sucks to have that happen in the first round. Sounds like a double elimination? Figure it this way (or at least this is how I do...), you're no longer trying to win a game or each match, you're now trying to win each inning. No shot is incidental, take a second to think about each one. I begin to think defensively first, if I can get 7 ball in hand I'll probably win, when it's time to run out I go after it. Above all, nothing stupid. I always go to movie quotes when I'm looking for inspirition:
Karate Kid II, Myagi to Daniel - "It not matter who stronger, it matter who smarter"
Smarts can go an awful long way in a league match, and besides, what have you got to lose?
NOW GO KICK THEIR COLLECTIVE BUTTS!!!

pretty obvious to me, that some of your players anyway, have ball pattern problems, and also, that can not break up clusters. Either that or they can not control the cue ball, and miss shape on the next ball.

You invite your team to play, at either the house or Pool room, plus invite a 7 in 8 ball too. You let the 7 walk your team through each game, and tell them why he made the choices he did. A lot of people who learn on their own, don't always play the best ball pattern to get out. Let the 7 tell your team when they should play safe, even if a shot is there, and why.
 
:wink:i just got back from the cities. we made it to the 3rd round.

i won my next 2 matches after being shut out the 1st round. we won 3 matches in a row the 2nd round and did not have to play matches 4 and 5.

the 3rd round we won the 1st match, they won the 2nd. i won the 3rd match. they throw out a 5 in the 4th match and we throw out our 6. i am liking our chances of not having to go to a 5th match. our 6 gets shut out by their 5 4-0 !. i aint believing this ! we throw out our best 4 and they throw out a 4 also. they won the last match 3-2 in a very tight game.

when we were packing up our 6 told me that this was the 1st time he had been shut out in a match after playing for 5 years. i told him he had a better record than me. i said it only took me 2 years to get shut out. we both had a laugh over that.

i hope we have better luck next week in the 9 ball cities. the week after we have the city tournies for 8 ball scotch doubles on sat and 9 ball scotch doubles on sun. 3 weekends in a row of city tourneys. plus regular league during the week. that is a lot of pool. i am in hog heaven :smile:
