The same guy (16 year-old teenager) who won the 2005 World Pool Championship in 9-ball... the field includes Hohmann, Imonnen, Van Den Berg, Efren Reyes, Bustamante, Chamat, Pagulayan... etc.. etc.... if he is not the best pool player right now.. I don't know who is.....

Kevin Trudeau Should Send This Kid A Special Invitation To Play In All Of Ipt's Events. How Many Players Can Win Both The World 8-ball And 9-ball Championship.

,,,,AND bring in a built in audience from his home country.

This kid's got the game and the nerve to be at the top.

What better way to prove the nay-sayers wrong about his WPA 9-ball title than to go and win the World 8-ball crown too!

Hats off.

Is eight ball big in China?

If not, seems like Ronnie O'Sullivan might have a better chance than I thought if 16 year old kids know enough about the game to win the big one. Either that, or he's the new Efren as far as picking up the strategy of games quickly.

This kid must be amazing. The IPT should definately bring Wu over here so we can see him in action. I can think of only a handfull of players who would have a chance to win both world titles. Efren, Alex Pag., maybe Holmann or Archer.

It is pretty amazing but it may just speak to the the non complexity of the game at that level. For the A players and below there are all kinds of moves and crafty strategies in 8 Ball. For these guys it's all about breaking up the clusters and running out which is almost routine for them given that most screw-ups will still leave them with another option to get out. JMHO.

This kid is real good, winning world titles at a age whereby his peers are still studying hard. The next thing I would like to see from him would be to defend his world 9 ball champion title next year. ;)

By the way, he is from Taiwan, not really a part of China.

That is right,Nostroke.Playing 8 ball on Bar table can get complex but not on 9 footers.8 Ball becomes a very easy game when u have the Break going for u.
Did u have good time at Nationals in oregan?

This is obviously a fine accomplishment, but, honestly, is he a favorite over Chao or Kuo? Even Pei Wei Chang, with a gold medal in the 2005 World Games and a 2nd place finish in the 2004 WPC deserves mention here.

Wu now deserves to be counted among the truly elite, but I'm not even convinced he's Taiwan's best. Boy, can those Taiwanese play pool or what? The Taiwanese are scary good, and that's omitting Yang and a few others that are capable of winning a world championship.

There's another tournament comming up in Taiwan later this month. I think it's an invitational. Not sure what the entire field is yet, but the TV ad shows Reyes, Pagulayan, Yang, Chao, Wu, and Suquet. I'm sure most of the other Taiwanese players will be there, as well as some other international players.

From the Taiwanese players, I think Yang, Wu, and Chao are the 3 elites. Pure skill wise, I think Yang is undeniably the best; he just hasn't won a WPC yet. The 2nd tier you got Hsia, Kuo, Pei-Wei Chang, Hung-lu Kung, and maybe 1 or 2 more. These guys are almost as good as the elites, and some has done very well in international tournaments, and can often upset the top 3. The 3rd tier and down players are too many to list, way too many. These guys are very good and are capable of winning international tournaments (and some has). The names of these guys can be found in the last 64s of the WPC brackets.

honestly,... eventhough Wu already won the top honors... likewise with Chao... I'd still bet my money for Yang Chin-Shung... he is simply flawless.. if these players play on top of their games at the same time.. I think Yang would win all the time.... flawless, smooth and a joy to watch.. I hope he play more game in the US in the future...

I agree Yang is one of the best players in the world. the other one is Alex Pagulyan. and Wu because he has won championships. I think it will be soon that Yang will take the wpc. he came pretty close for a few years. But that hsia dude can play.

Taiwanese players have been forbidden to play in IPT tour.

Congrats to Wu, I heard he didn't miss any shots in the final. And congrats to Nick for his silver medal, nothing to be ashamed for.

But, where were the Americans ?!

Nick van denberg's performance really surprised me. Granted, Bustamante wasn't really playing up to par what with his arm condition and all, but Nick really showed a lot of maturity. A far cry from his earlier performances. Silencer might have been right, after all.

And Wu, whew! What more can a guy ask for? Possibly a win at the US Open and at the DCC....that would really cement his stature as one of the game's best! He's probably already assured of a place in the Hall of Fame...and he's only 16 years old!!

Where is the forums member Bread N' Butter? I wonder if he still thinks Wu winning the WPC is still a fluke, lol.

Shouldn't have. Vandenberg came 7th at the US Open and 5th at the WPC. Europe appears to have done the US a huge favor picking Hundal over Vandenberg for their Mosconi Cup team.

I was about to say that too, Taiwan strictly speaking is not part of China therefore it like comparing 2 countries that have similar backgrounds.

ie it almost like calling someone from canada, americans.

or If your scottish and calling their english :D. Wait (better not go there lol )
