Good for him. I'm sure it was a difficult decision to leave his family and friends, but hard to turn down a guaranteed monthly salary + all expenses. Not many pool players have that level of stability!

That is pretty cool. Singapore is one of my favorite places in the world and a likely candidate for my future home once I get my most recent degree done. Having him in Singapore can only help the local pool scene there hugely.

While Taiwan might be sad to see him go they might want to think about the bigger picture and having the interest of the sport increasing outward. Taiwan has alot of players and their pool scene is only going to go up. Singapore could really use Wu though.

Then again it would be interesting to see if he will be able to help develop the talent here and raise the bar for our players or

Will he also suffer a drop in his standard as there would be hardly any real challenge around here. Unlike in Taiwan where you will alway have to be on your toes to stay at the top.

I also do not think it is all good for Singapore players as it will permanently take away 1 slot out of the very few that we can get in any tournament. Then again it is also not surprising as Singapore has always been using this rather sad method of buying players to win her medal much like our very first Olympic gold medal we achieved was through a Chinese ping pong player we hired.

Then again an incredible event just happened. The Singapore Ladies champion decided to also take part in the mans championship and actually WON it! So now she is both the mans and ladies champion! So maybe the council has decided that enough is enough and is now bring in the big guns.

This is going to be an interesting season.

As a Singaporean myself, it is sad to see the country resort to such tactics AGAIN to buy success.

If I can see a Singapore winning world championships in bowling, I do not see why we cannot produce a world champion in pool.

Pool is not a sport whereby you need extraordinary sporting ability to be the best. It is more of a sport which needs a lot of discipline and training to be very good.

I believe if we were to get a pool of good local players and pay them S$4000 each per month, provide them free training facilities and send them overseas for tournaments, we might be able to get a champion out of this pool of players, in years to come.

I would rather see the government here spend more money on youth development schemes than to spend 1 lump sum of money on an individual who has already been world champion twice.

I do like Wu as a player, but however in this case, I feel sad that he is representing us just because of money.

World champions are not born overnight, and it pisses me off when our government tries to get a world champion from Singapore via shortcuts.
This will act a a deterrent to young kids who aspire to be top sportsmen in their areas.
Most of these children will think that it is useless to train so hard and then get themselves replaced by foreigners in the long run.

We are already a big joke in the sporting scene in South East Asia as well as the table tennis fraternity. If Wu wins a world pool championship under the flag of Singapore, we will even be a bigger joke worldwide.

true. in the middle-east filipino pro players are being contracted to teach pool (but not to represent their country in international competition) wu can help the younger players (no doubt) but to replace them??? :sorry:

Just to point out, there is no official statement from Wu himself that he is indeed leaving Taipei and settling down in Singapore. It is all hearsay and speculation.

What is certain however, is that Wu Chia Ching will be stepping in as a sparring partner for the Singapore national squad (they are preparing for the South East Asian Games). Beyond that, anything about him taking up Singapore citizenship is entirely false at this point in time.

I would like to advise the threadstarter to get his facts right BEFORE making such a ludicrous and controversial statement: that Wu is playing for Singapore from now. This kind of unwarranted and unjustified statements only serve to HURT Wu's reputation in Taiwan.

He is going to be the strongest player in the world in 2-3 more years, if he isnt already. I was told that by someone who is his speed, he said "I see alot of myself in him, he is where I was 20plus years ago". Thats a pretty strong assessment of Wu's game, I see it and i'm far from that league, he has qualitys that Efren, Earl ad other greats possess-the "gift" and no weakness's. If he does have a weak link like say Efren dosent have a great 9ball break he over comes it with other greatness. They are the elite players of the world for that reason.

I wish him the best. I chose to ignore the politics of this stuff I only hope it dosent put undo presure on him or distract him from being all he is capable of being-and I firmly believe we have only seen a little bit of what he will be. I wish him the very best!

There is a reason he is called "The Little Genius". He is the most Zen-like pool player I've ever seen. If he continues to develop, I can only imagine what he may accomplish. Ten Ball is made for him and a player of his abilities.
