I got super bad on the 7. How would you guys play this? Its hard to tell from the picture, but I'm pretty sure the CB can go forward and miss the 9 and catch the end rail right before the pocket for a forward route possibility.

I haven't shot this yet, its on my table the situation just came up.

I'm thinking of going forward 2 rails out of the corner with the 9, then 2 more rails on the corner not in the picture, then play the 8 in the corner.

If you weren't that close to the rail I would shoot the 7 in the corner but seeing as how you need to jack up for that shot being close to the rail like that, I would play 7 in the side jack up a bit and get shape on the 8 ball bottom corner.

So jack up and hit bottom right of the cue ball. stun the ball and then the bottom right will give you good shape on the 8 with 2 rails position.

By the way, I like what you did with your cloth with the zones so you can practice landing in the right zones with cue ball control.

Jack up....low center ball.....one rail for the eight down the long rail.
....aim a shade thick on the seven....airborne overcuts.

If Im playing good, Im cutting the 7 to the corner with a touch of high right to come to the opposite long rail and shoot the 8 in the lower pocket opposite the 9. No jacking up, no excessive english, and the cut isnt any harder than the side pocket.

I agree but I would put a bit of right on it to go 2 rails for 8 in the bottom corner.

The scratch in the side is at play with this way. Also, you can hit the point of the side pocket and leave your self with a bank on the 8, that way.

Looking at the real table I think shooting the 7 in the corner will send the CB just before the point.

Side spin makes the shot tougher...
...going two rails flirts with pockets.
Just jack a bit more for more draw.

That is true jacking up and putting a bit of side spin is harder but it's a shot a pool player should be comfortable adjusting to in my opinion. I practice those shots. I did mean a tiny bit of side though not like a 2 tips or anything. The problem for me about hitting the 7 with just low on the cue ball, you have a chance to leave your self a very hard cut on the 8 ball and you have to rely 100% on speed control. I prefer to execute a little bit tougher shot in order to get a easier position. That's personal preference though. For me my game is more consistent on this situation if I put a half tip of right english.

Nice avatar btw, JFk was a real president.

It's very close. I think the CB will hit 1/2" before the point standing at the table.

I like what you are doing with posting pictures of a situation in your practice sessions. I am gonna try that shot my self a couple of different ways.

If you keep posting these type of threads, would it be possible to get a picture of the table from a top view?

I like low right. Center draw can work but the cut is thin. I would be afraid of hitting too hard and losing control if I just went center. With a little outside spin you can hit the 7 fuller and softer. If it looks like too much of a jack up though, I don't want to turn the shot into a masse shot.....I go center and try to hold the ball or come off the back rail to hit the 8.

I just tried your situation out and this is the best way to go about it in my personal opinion.

A stun shot hit the 7 in the side like this picture shows here.

This worked perfectly for me every time.

I tried all the shots posted thus far (I think). None of the shots were easy. I think with equal practice on all of them, shooting the 7 in the corner with high and a hair of right seems the most logical, sending the CB straight across table.

Video is just 60 sec for easy viewing...

Hmm did you try my shot? I did the shot like 10 out of 10. very standard.
