Wyoming Joe

For several years I drove big rigs over the road. And being a player I ran into alot of people that had an influence on my game and myself. One of those people was a man by the name of Joe Vialpondo alias" Wyoming Joe , Mexican Joe, and Little Joe." He was from Cheyenne and his sister and brother in law still have a room there called Plush Billiards.I met him at Millers billiard and bowling in Davenport, Ia.My first time there I was back on 1 of the 2 nine footers when He walked up and asked if I wanted to play some 9ball for 5$ a game.Well, I figured I couldn't get hurt to bad at those stakes so I said Ok. 150$ later I finally quit.I didn't want to stop.He was the best player I had ever personally played and I was mesmorized by his skills. After I payed off we started to talk and he told me a little about himself. He was a rated player in the 70's, [ Pro ranked 35th I think]but he was now in his 60's and this was back in about 1996.For another 2 hours after our match and after the half dozen times I came through Davenport over the next 3 years he taught me stuff about pool that has helped make my game what it is today.I've gotten back 100 times over what I lost to him because of him. If your out there Joe,or if there is anyone who knows him let him know I still remember him every time I pick up a cue.
I'm sure there's alot of stories just like this one out there. You got one?

If I am not mistaken I believe he has a video out on bank and kick shots.

Re: Little Joe

I remember him well, and he was a great player, nice guy too. His sister and brother in law (Pete Trujillo aka "Cheyenne Pete") are two of the nicest people you'll ever meet in the pool world. They have owned the Plush Cue pool room for about 30 years. Pete also played pretty sporty. He'd make the drive down to Colorado and play Grady Matthews (getting a little weight.) Wyoming was one of the best kept secrets in pool in the late 70's and early 80's during the oil boom. Tons of action. I have not seen Joe for about 20 years although I did stop in and talk to Pete and his wife a couple of years ago. I'll mention to Pete next time I see him that Joe had some postive influence in your pool life. He'll feel good about that.
Regards, Roger

Joe was a good little road man with a lot of heart. Reminds me of "Frisco" Dave Piona that way. About the same speed too. He mentored several women who became good players, most notably Kris Turner. We talked for the first time in ages the other day, and he mailed me his DVD. Haven't had a chance to look at it yet (the Holidays!), but when I do will let you know what I think.

Super cool guy with a tremendous knowledge of the game. Friendly, easy to match up with and plays hard. We played decades ago in my first poolroom and I think he charged me.

Cheyenne Pete Trujillo

Pete goes down to Denver once in a while and manages to win or place highly in some tournaments. He plays a pretty good game of One Pocket.

He & his wife are indeed two very nice people. However, Petes wife is not a lot of fun to play with if you have a fragile male ego. She's been known to sneak up on a few unsuspecting folks.
