Because the break alone can be the deciding factor in 9 ball, I would like to see and bet on Dennis with an alternate break format race to sixty. My thinking is Orcullo has stronger board play and the ability to figure out how to beat you. I wonder if Jay would agree with this statement.

It does reduce the break factor to a minimum, but that is part of the game. Personally, I'd like to see them play Ten Ball. Right now, Dennis is a little wounded. He has had a tough year so far in money games, following Derby City. Van Van beat him four times in a row in races to 25, the last one a Ten Ball match. Dennis finally managed to win one set on the fifth try.

Now he gets bombed by Yang, so he needs to regroup a little. Dennis will come back and maybe better than ever. This is a determined young man, and a great pool player. He was on top for a while, but it isn't easy to retain that lofty stature once you reach it. Everyone is gunning for you. Dennis will have to go back to the drawing board (read that practice, practice, practice) and regain the skills and confidence that made him the "money king" of the Philipines.

It is one thing to be the best player gambling in the poolroom, and it is another thing to be on center stage surrounded by all the commotion that goes with a TV show. I don't think he was comfortable with all the starting and stopping. But he must learn to deal with these pressures, because there will surely be more stages like this ahead for him. I for one, believe he will adjust and learn how to cope with it. He will be better prepared next time.

Alternate breaks is killing the excitement.
i watched the the WPC finals.. race to 17. 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2005. those are the ones i watched. didnt watch the 2003 yet. they were all exciting. i watched the one with alcano and souquet and i had a hard time keeping my eyes open. BORIIING.
You will never see a come from behind when the guy is down 5 sets and breaks and runs 5 racks in the clutch.. thats classic stuff we would be missing.. the break is a part of the game. its a weapon you must have to play with the big boys. look at archer. he ALWAYS finds his break. no excuses at that level. like jay said.. ten ball would be better because less balls goes in the break and we would see more crafty runouts.

After his strong showing at the DCC money games, Dennis just got some beating from LVC and settled for runner-up finishes in some tourneys. I hope he'd do better and calm himself a bit.
