Well, according to these articles, Orcollo will be participating in the Derby City tournament next week. He is playing in all 3 divisions - banks, one-pocket and 9-ball including the ring games.

Recently, he won 180,000 pesos in a winner-take-all 'money game' in a field of 6 players that included Efren, Busta, Alcano, Alex Pagulayan and Lee Van Corteza. This just proves how strong a player he is and that he is still the current Philippine money game king.

The knockout phase saw Orcollo edging Bustamante, Pagulayan trouncing Alcano and Corteza beating Reyes. By luck of the draw, Orcollo won the first title slot, leaving Corteza and Pagulayan to dispute the other berth

I would say that Dennis, Alex and Yang are the three top money players
(9-Ball or Ten Ball) going today. Busty, Johnny and a couple of others are just behind them.

Alex and Dennis may be top dogs right at the moment, but this is subject to change. Yang seems relentless in his pursuit of being considered the best player on Earth.

Of course, at One Pocket, Efren continues to be THE MAN. And to purists like me, that means a lot. It is the toughest game.

As far as Yang being "levels" below anyone, I must disagree. It's more like a millimeter.

Jay,
How about any of them playing Efren each game, 8-ball, 9-ball, 1-pocket, banks, 14.1 and 3-cushion. Lag to see who picks first game and loser picks next game, first to win three different games, who ya like?

Yang has ever played money games with Bustamante about 3 or 4 times, and Yang won all. In fact, I have never heard Yang lost any money game these years. When Alex won the wpc, he has ever said he has lost his most money games in taiwan.

You gotta make Effie the favorite at One Pocket and Three Cushion. Eight Ball and 14.1 he is at least even with the other top guys, Banks probably also. What's left? 9-ball. Who do I like at these six games? EFREN REYES!!!

Dennis beat him right before the WPC for 10K and also a few months before that. So twice within the last year.

When these two match up it always could go either way, both are unbeatable when they are in stroke. What I like the most is that both players come from countries where money is hard to come by, yet they only play high stakes games and it speaks volumes about their confidence in their own games.

Does anyone know if Yang will be going to DCC? I don't recall him ever playing a tournament in the US.

All pinoy players are greta money players, they are animals at the table when they can smell money. I have lots of respect for their game.

However, I like Yang's chances, if they both play with their own money. Yang's home table has super small pockets, and the tables conditions in Taiwan is very slow. Yang has one of the most powerful stroke and best potting power I have seen, he is deadly on those slow tables with super tight pockets.

I agree Orcullo is awesome at these kind of equipment, but I want to emphasis the extra pressure of betting with their own money, which I believe would make a big difference and bring out the best out of the player with the strongest mental game when everything is on the line.

From what I understand, and correct me if I am wrong, that most pinoy players bet with their managers' money. The mentality of betting with a backer's money is very different than with one's own money. I think that would give Yang an edge.

Just my .02 cents.

I would like to think playing with their own money Dennis would only be even more focused. I doubt he would wilt at the pressure of playing with his own money, afterall he is the money game king of the Philippines. You don't get there without having nerves of steel. Also, it wouldnt be the first time he's gambled his own money. I mean think about it, he had to have started from the bottom of the ladder years ago and without any backers. Just my opinion.

Humm, may be your guys have a point. I guess we will just have to wait for them to play to find out.

Van van is great, I heard he beat Alcano after the WPC for some money.

Taiwan makes computer chips, money is not hard to come by.

In any type of long match, Orcullo wins 9/10 times.

That is the dumbest/funniest thing I've read here in a long time. I hope they match up in a long race, I'll take the same odds you'll be giving Nostroke.

Lee Van Corteza

i would take dennis or van van over yang any day of the week...

Corteza was very impressive in reaching the finals against Dennis in the just concluded special matches that included. Efren, Busti, Alcano, Dennis, Alex Pagulayan. I believe the matches started in the evening and lasted until 5 am in the morning. And it was not even announced before it happened!

Based on the news articles, Dennis beat Bustamante, Alex won over Alcano and Corteza beat the great Efren Reyes. Dennis then drew a bye and Corteza beat Alex Pagulayan to earn the right of challenging Dennis in the finals. Dennis won the final match but what impresses me the most is that Corteza was able to beat Efren and Pagulayan in these pressure filled matches.

Also, watch out for Jeff de Luna. He is slowly but surely making a name for himself. With that spectacular breaking ability of his, I would not be surprised if he along with Corteza will be the next great players to come out of the Philippines.

What about Marlon Manalo? Does he not play any money games at all? His name is always left out when we are talking about the money matches.
