What year was the legal jump shot started in the pros events or has it always been legal. Can't imagine it was considered legal in the old days. May as well ask when was it legal in league pool? Jumps were never used or even seen in my old snooker hall for sure.

in snooker it's a foul to intentionally jump a ball.

i don't think it's a case where it was legalized, just that it was never illegal. nobody probably thought that it could turn into a commanplace shot.
 
They were making short, really fat jump cues (20+ mm) 30 years ago. Those were declared illegal a few years later, and when the BCA instituted rules regarding the minimum length of jump cue (40") some pros were taping a soda straw to a shaft, to get around the rules. That only worked for a while too!

so i guess the debate over jump cues has been around a lot longer than i had thought. it's a miracle they're still around with all the negative views of them.
 
Jumps are part of the game and here to stay. That said I think it should be done with your playing cue and not specialized equipment.

Would you say that pro golfers should be limited to using a 9-iron in a sand trap?
 
It's all earls fault. Is'nt he the one that jumped a ball against mizerak on e.s.p.n. ,that started it all? full cue ,i must add.
