Yellow spots on shafts

Just to clarify, my issue was to protect my NEW zylr shafts.
The shaft in question is by a phillipine cuemaker.
If it is an infectious situation, then i am rightfully very worried about my new zylr.

Get a new case. :)

Not convinced the case is the culprit.
I've seen this before on high dollar cues with shafts from top quality makers.
The common thread............been stored for an extremely long time without seeing the light of day.

No idea what would cause it...............

I love this answer, a cue repairman telling the truth. Just to often I see repair people and builders bluffing their way through situations that they really aren't sure of but still want to give an authoritative response. They are afraid that if they say "I don't know" then people won't take them for an expert. Truth is, nobody knows everything. This doesn't just go for cue-makers but also any trades person or business man or even doctor.

Haha, thanks to all the cuemakers who gave me an honest reply and also those who took the time to read and gave their part on it.

A follow up question on the issue at hand. Since i guess it would be really hard to find out the exact reason behind it. And suggestions on ways to prevent it from happening? I have heard ppl telling me to hang my cues. Effective?

Wow that is something else, guess I'd be worried about My good cues too if that were to happen to me. My personal cues stay in a case in between uses, and I've never had that happen. A yellowing finish possibly, but not a splotchy shaft like that.

I really don't have a clue what caused It either. I read most of the thoughts here, and most seem plausable, so I could be drawn into them too, but The one that caught My attention the most was the bleach, but only because I have seen a reaction simular before with It, and It was a splotchy rust color, as if a rusty bolt was added to the mix. The difference was It was'nt on a shaft, and didn't take that long to develop, so that may not be what It is, and if by chance another shaft from a different maker has the same marks then I would be concerned with Your good cue, and keep It in a different case just to be safe. Haha, i did think of it as bacterial growth. I used Isopropyl alcohol to swipe the infected areas, hoping the disinfectant can kill it if it is bacterial growth. But alcohol on my shafts, i am not that happy to use it. Also not sure if it will stop the spreading.
