Yellowing Inlays

Okay. So I know that Ivory and Cues in general will yellow after time. I was wondering if this is the finish or the Inlay/Butt material that is yellowing. I recently picked up this McDaniel and the bottom of the cue is very yellow while the point inlays are bright white. Would a refinish brighten things up or will the yellow parts remain yellow at this point. It wouldn't bother me as much if the point inlays were also yellow but they are not so it looks kind of weird. Thanks for the input.

I'd say it's the clear. The Ivory parts in the cues I've repaired have all turned back to white.

Just a hunch, compare the forearm finish to the butt. The butt may have been refinished/repaired and something different from Bill's UV finish could have been used. It is highly unlikely that the butt would turn differently from the front unless an improper refinish was done at one time or another.

Everything about the cue looks to be original. The wrap shows the same yellowing/aging that you would expect with the yellowing butt sleeve. There are no signs of a refinish on either the butt or forearm sections of the cue and the finish is consistent throughout.

Bill's cues are finished with UV, and I have never seen one yellow like yours. The wrap is never finished with UV at the shop, so that makes an even stronger case someone has refinished the bottom half of the cue. The fact that the forearm is still clear tells me that there are two different finishes on your cue. What about the shafts? Do they exhibit yellowing too?

Sorry if I didn't word things right. There is no finish on the wrap. The wrap just shows age as I would expect. The shaft shows some yellowing but not as much as the butt sleeve. Funny thing is that I played with the cue for a while last night and it seems that it lightened up a little. I'm thinking about having it buffed out a little to see what happens.

Thanks for your responses. I appreciate it.
