The recent passing of guys like 'Weenie Beenie' 'Strawberry' and 'Chicago Bugs' Rucker are sad reminders of just how important the One Pocket Hall of Fame is to these great players, many of whom have been overlooked by the pool and billiard establishment for years.
If you have never been to one of our annual Hall of Fame dinners, it is hard to explain the quality of the experience. Let me just say that our Hall of Fame banquet is a special mix of strong emotions and rousing entertainment. The sentimental part might surprise you, because frankly, these are some of the toughest hombres in pool! Of course the storytelling is to be expected, because these are the great characters & storytellers in pool. Put these two qualities together in the company of over a hundred players and peers, and you can see why many people describe our dinner as the highlight of their week at the Derby, and that is saying something!
So I hope you can come. As you may have heard, the Billiard Congress of America has announced that they are not having their BCA Hall of Fame dinner this year, the casualty of a cost saving decision. This year is the fifth year for our alternative Hall of Fame celebration of 'Pool in Action' and your attendance is what keeps us going! Dress is casual, and the banquet room is conveniently located right in one of the Horseshoe Casino's function rooms.
If you cannot come this year, but you still like the idea of helping out, I would like to suggest you consider buying a ticket to sponsor one of our many guests. If you do, I will very happily get one of the HOF player posters signed for you, and I will also send you a copy of the program. Of course if you come yourself you can get more autographs than you know what to do with!
