thanks to this forum and all the help one can get here, i changed my old lepro tip to a moori medium. without having a lathe, the job turned out pretty good. heck, it didn't come off after playing a couple of hours! but, after shaping the tip to a "dime" shape and practicing for a mere 15 minutes, the tip was losing the dime shape and getting flat and a mirror reflection end and not holding chalk very well. it was not mushrooming however. i *****ed it and that lasted about 5 mintues, back to the really smooth end. is this normal with a moori tip? or is this normal with layered tips? will this stop soon? if this keeps up and i shape to a dime constantly, i won't have a tip at all in a month as i practice daily! do i order a new kamui black now?

Not normal at all. I did see some very minor mushrooming with my Moori medium tip after a couple of weeks of play. After trimming the tip, i did not see any mushrooming after heavy use. I switched over to the Moori soft and have had no mushrooming or problems in over a year. So, I'm not certain what is happening to your tip. Could it be a counterfeit? Sorry I can't be of any help to you. Good luck in figuring out the problem. Please post your finding if you do.

When doing a tip by hand (no lathe) it is difficult to properly burnish the side of the tip. Burnishing tends to harden the side which helps support the tip radius.
Let it (the tip) play in for a time and it will work harden a bit, then square the sides with your knife or sandpaper.
Fold a paper towel twice and hold it against the tip side between your thumb and fore finger and pinch hard, rotating the shaft while you do. In a few seconds the tip side will become shiny and you're done. You may have to repeat this from time to time.
Also, make sure your ferrule is clean when you burnish the tip. If not, you run the risk of impregnating chalk dust into it. :)

Had 2 Moori softs (slows? whatever they are called now) put on by Mr. Webb, played several hours with each shaft, tip is the same shape is was when new. Although they have a harder hit than my old tips, which were also Moori.

Maybe there a category before "Soft" for them.

yes yes yes yes, i played with moori for years. then 3 months ago i switched to triangle. Last week i switched to kamui (black/medium) best tip i ever had, even beat the OLD mooris. IMO

The tip is adjusting to your shooting style......correct for the slight mushrooming, otherwise leave it alone.
Every time you reshape the tip, it has to figure out if your shooting style is mostly center ball (flat) or if you use english (domed) on every shot. The shape of your tip is telling you something..... listen to it.

I have a Moori Medium that came new on my Predator P3. I shaped it to nickel curvature. It is holding it's shape very well and continues to hold chalk well. I might rough it or reshape it a little bit after maybe every 10 hours of play.

I've never had the problems you describe when using Moori tips but I haven't played with them for several years now. I've been made to understand that the new ones are not on a par with the old ones. I'm using 3 Triangles and 1 LePro at the moment. No problems at all, going on about three years for two of the Triangles, longer for the LePro.

That was a great post, I never thought about it like that before.
Makes a lot of sense.

I've never had that problem with any of the moori's that I install..........

I hope you were not the victim of a knock off tip

thanks for all the input....i will be playing about 5 hours tonight and will reshape before playing and see the results. i have no ideaa if this is a knockoff...if the problem continues i will change to a kamuii......had a lepro and it mushroomed. i do tend to use a lot of english rather than center ball, probably should change that. i make my shape 95% of the time but make the shot less percentage.......thanks again....

You have described to a "T" what happened with my
Moori medium tip!! Put a Kamui black soft on about
six weeks ago and it's still as good as the day I put
it on!!
