Yet Another Cue Id Please

Hi! I'm new, and cue-tarded. My father used to make cues when he was alive. He was quite the collector. I never did pick up the passion but I do remember seeing a few names around his house.
I bought a Riich cue at a thrift store in the middle of Northern Minnesota today.
These are pictures that I managed to find of an identical Cue.
Mine is a bit more aged looking, but in good enough shape that it still has the original stickers numbering 228, 19oz.
It looks like it's been used a half a dozen times, the threads are pristine. It's just gorgeous.
I would love to have more info on this piece. The approximate year if possible, and value.
Perhaps one of you knows someone in Northern MN that may be able to do an appraisal?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'm not an expert, but my initial guess would be Abe Rich...others will chime in who know for sure...

I just wanted to say welcome to the forum and I laughed outloud at your "introduction" and self-assessment!!!
 
yes, thank you both so much. I had realized this much, but was more curious as to the aprx. year. I'm just not that great on my company history, logos. It's hard info to find. :) thanks again.

I think we were all hoping you had picked up on that much...we just weren't too sure about your level of "cue-tardedness"... :p

Hang in there...there's several people on here who know about Abe's cues...they'll chime in eventually... :wink:

Fair assumption, but I believe it's incorrect. Abe Rich actually started making cues in the early 70's in Miami under the the Star Mfg name, and usually signed his name on them.

Rich cues were made by Saul Rich, who was actually Abe's cousin, from 1912 to 1982 in New York. Many were unsigned, but some had the very distinguishable Rich Q logo under a clear plastic widow.

I think what you have there is a RICH cue put out by Imperial before they quit using the Rich name.

Thank you so much everyone. I've got more to go on now. Approximate year and the company. I feel like I won something. I paid $5 for it. Shhh! Don't tell!
Now to find someone in the area with a blue book. >:-}

Anyway, yes, Saul Rich cue. But I am unclear on it being one of the ones that was "farmed out" to Imperial or otherwise.

Either way, it's a darn nice example.

I have an Abe Rich...but eventually I am hoping to have one of these as well. I would love to see the pics of the actual cue.

$5.00 eh? You beat my find I think. I got my Abe Rich for $2.00 in a thrift store. I dunno....maybe call it even.


Please let me know if it's for sale. :)

Hi Doc,,,,,,,,I'm not so sure about the Farmed out part. The way I understand it, which may be wrong, is that while Saul Rich was making the cues he signed them,,,,,,,,,,,this one is not signed. He eventually sold out to Imperial, and so since he no longer made them, he no longer signed them, ala the Rich stamp. So it's a fair assumption I believe that this would be dated to the short period of time that Imperial was making the Rich cues. The hard part would be tyring to date a signed one I believe.

I am familiar with the later deal with Imperial. I'm unclear if it was a sale or a licensing of the name or what, but Imperial made the cues. What I am unclear on is the cues with this particular logo.
